If Zhirkov is so persistent and so hopefull then surely there was at some point a chance of signing him? If we had talked with the player and convinced him to apply pressure I'm sure it would have worked out. Unfortunately I doubt we even gave a serious try which wasn't too bright. Anyways it's over and good luck to him, not too much though.

We signed Hleb after our bid for Hernanes was not accepted. We were also linked with Arshavin, but he was not related to the Hleb signing.
