Messi is more specialised and consistent in his narrower skill set. Always been a top dribbler and goalscorer. As he got older, his playmaking got better.


Ronaldo followed the opposite path. Started as a traditional winger in a 442, was a terrific crosser. As he got older he became more and more of a goalscorer.

Let's keep this to another thread though.

Robben has more in his locker than Bale as an attacker. Not even bringing Messi to this debate.

Crossing isn't a niche tool for a winger. Neither is heading niche for attackers. Both are very important and highly valuable in the sport.

Crossing is just an aspect of passing. Heading is mainly just an aspect of scoring. Weak foot isn't even a category, it's just an aspect to everything. Yet when someone can't achieve with 2 feet what another can do with 1, then that isn't being more complete.

It also doesn't all weigh the same. You can't look at someone being a crosser, and one being specialized in through balls and claim it's even.
A through ball literally sends an attacker into a 1v1 with a 80% scoring chance, and a cross is total inshallah.

Messi is the better shooter, the better passer, the better dribbler and just as shit of a defender. Which would make him more complete than Ronaldo. Ronaldo can maybe play a pass with his shoulder, or his back, or jump high, but if the sum of all it's components is still lower than what Messi does in a simpler manner, then he isn't more complete at the relevant parts of the game.

Let's agree to disagree. For me, CR7 is definitely the superior shooter and physically much better, Messi the better passer and dribbler. But will save it for another thread.

On topic, I have no issues against Robben being better than Bale. I thought it's close which is why I made this thread. Think people are selling Bale a bit short though. Probably coz he trolled Madrid and many posters here secretly have a soft spot for Madrid.
