He will be 28 in May, which while not old, is entering that age with diminishing returns in terms of transfer fees.

If we can manage to renew while opening the door for a sale with the leverage of no expiring contract, then that could work best. Ala Araujo, compared to what happened with Dembele where we had to give up 50% of his transfer fee.

He'll probably be peak in terms of value over the next 2 years, I bet with a good world cup we can sell him to Man U for a fat fee. Love him but we need to start making money on our players and not just keep them on fat salaries till its time for them to go to the MLS. Or in his case back to Ajax. We need to start being the second-to-last to sell players.

Would be better off selling him this summer if that is the plan.

Couldnt do that with Dembele and Araujo they know would get better offers for in summer.

There is zero chance he would go to Man Utd.

Would have pick of better clubs than that if wanted to leave this summer.

I doubt they would make a lot if went to sell him this summer anyway as agent would play hard ball if not renewing.

With a good WC we'd probably get offers from a whole host of teams one of which maybe he'll be okay with moving for. I just don't think he's leaving this summer especially with the success we seem to be rolling towards with him getting back into the starting 11. Like unless Man City comes for him I don't think he's gonna wanna leave period if we make it far in the CL / win more trophies this season.

He could have pick of most of those teams this summer anyway.

Makes more sense to let him go now and use FFP space this summer if that is clubs aim.

A good WC for players that are established doesnt have much impact really.
