Yeah but likes of Vini had insane PR. Dembele doesn't have that. You are still in disbelief...
You haven't seen how this award is handed the last years?

If PSG wins CL, you think any other player will get it?
With no National Team competition in the summer?
How?
Only Benzema has won Ballon dor in the past 6 years while winning the CL. Lewa would have got it in 2020 too, but it shows that winning CL isn't the decisive factor above all. The likes of Salah and Raphinha also has phenomenal year so far, Dembele chances aren't that big IMHO
Now that you mention that, FIFA may want to influence it going to a WCC winning player to try and establish the tournaments legitimacy.
if PSG ever wins it and Dembele keeps his scoring form, then he can definitely win it, cause he would've won Ligue 1, and most likely their French cups, and add the UCL too and possibly UEFA super cup which follows (PSG would also push for him if it ever comes to that). I don't see them winning it, but if they do, then it's very very possible, cause why won't he have a big chance? It's not like we have the Aliens (Messi and Ronaldo) anymoreMost goals in CL winning team cannot be the only criteria. No way Dembele wins, no matter what he does the rest of the way.

When there is NO world cup or other major NT tournament, the CL is the deciding factor pal
Everybody knows that, at least the last few years
Benzema 2022, Lewa 2020, Messi 2019, Ronaldo before
Maybe should not be that way, but it is what it is...
No. Dembele was a child in mind. Barcelona helped him and believed in him massively because his potential was world class. He wasn't mature enough and injuries held him back. He kept improving during his last seasons as he continued to do in Paris. Barca did nothing wrong with him except paying too high of a price and selling too low.I think it's now more than ever clear that his failure is due to the clown Barcelona coaches before flick. Now under Enrique he is looking sharp and no injuries. The lack of physical training and bad team culture really hurt him. He would be so good for Barca right now unfortunately.
Messi didn't win CL in 2019
CL is a big factor, but you always forget how the voters actually change, you mention "before that" when it was combined FIFA + UEFA, when NT captains had one third of votes, NT coaches had other votes, and Journalists of the entire FIFA nations also had votes.
Now it is journalists from FIFA's ranking top 50 nations alone.
So, almost everything before the current pole of voters is actually irrelevant
