He wasnt over rated.

Was brilliant those last few seasons.

If anything Alba is over rated really in comparison.

Depends on situation as they were different players. Abidal acted as 3rd defender when Alves was bombing forward, very good physically but doesnt compare to Alba offensively. Alba was basically an extra winger but when he had to defend he was as bad as Marcelo. Overall Alba probably edges him due to longevity, though his legacy is also tarnished for being one of the amigos.

That and being a whiny crybaby.

That aside, he was one of the best LBs of his generation. I would only take Marcelo above him and he is an all time great. Comfortably better than Abidal imo and had the best understanding with Messi.

Also, despite being an "amigo", he was always one of the hardest working players in the team. Even in his later seasons.

No he wasn't. He was very mentally weak and too offensive when we had Alves/Robertoin the team, bad balance. The only thing that saves him is his chemistry with Messi

Abidal is clear but I don't like either. LB together with GK is by far the worst position in Barca's all time 11.
