Ousmane Dembélé

Who would've thought a year ago fucking Dembele and Raphinha would be fighting for Ballon d'Or

Tbh it's not that crazy. Dembele had spells of top football under Xavi until he got injured in the 2nd part of 2022-23. He seems that his body has matured as he is not that young anymore, stays fit now, and he got smarter as he aged also.

Raphinha always had the most elite mentality possible. He's not a surprise at all for me. Also got a manager that is right down on his alley. Better for him than Xavi's more static positional possession football.

The shite part for Barcelona is we basically spent 150m on Dembele's education.

To me, the PSG squad now seems stronger or more compact than the PSG of then (even with Messi, Neymar and Mbappe). it's not just about the names, the togetherness also matters to a large extent (cause the talent of Messi and Neymar is levels above the squad, but the squad is more dangerous as a collective).

I imagine it would've been easier for Liverpool to break them down with the waves of attack they pushed at Anfield if they had Messi, Neymar and Mbappe upfront, as they press less.

They look more like a team now.

Let's see how PSG fair next round.

Villa are more vertical than Pool and despite being a lesser side, Emery is much more well versed in Cup managed.

I think this match showed that as much as PSG were good (and they were fantastic in the first leg, not so much in Anfield), that Slot has his limitations as manager and will revert to his inner Simeone rather than be bold.

Take Salah for example, he had 210 minutes of nothingness versus Nuno Mendes. But he is their best player and Slot done nothing to give Salah a 2-on-1 advantage on the right to get those goalscoring opportunities. Nothing.

Yeah, the PSG game against Villa would be tough.

To be fair to Salah, Nuno Mendes is very good (has pace and all); and he was limited to mostly defending against Liverpool, normally, you see him attacking more.

Salah also had his chances against Mendes, I remember he got past him from around midfield and ran to the box where Joao neves fouled him and his shot went wide (if he actually fell from that tackle, that would've been a clear penalty).

Salah had a goal-bound shot blocked by Mendes, another by Kvara and was fouled again just outside the box by Mendes (VAR didn't review cos it was just outside). So PSG had much luck in Anfield as Liverpool had in France, Slot performed well in Anfield but his team got tired in extra time

Birdy owns this thread and all of you

Only one defending Dembele all this time
Lol he's having a good few months. Let's see if he's still playing really well in 2028. He could very easily flop against Villa.

It's easy for you and Birdy to claim being right all along after him finally playing well after years of nothingness. It doesn't work like that - someone isn't a non-entity in life for ages, then you claim the small, outlier period is the real him and you were 'right all along'. That's fucking stupid.

he's a good player, I am not denying he has a lot of talent and I love his two-footedness. but fuck me some cunts on here are getting completely carried away acting like he's some sort of genius. Remember the Rashford hype two years ago? Remember Dele Alli? Remember Lingard? Remember James Rodriguez was gonna lead Everton to the title when they were top after five games?

Don't shoot your load too early. Football fans are dickheads in general who get carried away with two months of good form no matter who it is. Right now it is Dembele. In future it will be someone else. Maybe he will maintain his level for many years to come; maybe he will be a 6 month/one season wonder. But the point is that football fans live in the moment and have no ability to distinguish between form and true level.

Memories of fucking goldfish.

If we're honest his failure here is due to his injury issues.

Now we are seeing him 'peak' but it is almost certain this would have happened far earlier without so many major injuries.

It was awful timing that he came to the club whilst our physical conditioning was amateur. It's even worse that as we were starting to fix it and become a physically top team he left.

Unfortunate situation.

Did he score 30 goals in last season? No? He has grown a lot this season. Why not just accept he maybe a type that peaks in their late 20s?

And nothing will change the fact that he is a shit transfer for Barca.

Seems like he reached his peak when he left competitive leagues and went to the only club in Uber Farm Ligue UUUUUGGGGGGHHHHHHH.

Coincidence? :blind:
Some things are just clear, he has 21 league goals in 24 games this season, and had 3 in 26 league games in the same league.

He has 7 UCL goals this season and had 6 UCL goals in his last 6 seasons
