What argument would you put forward for Valverde other than he scores bangers from time to time and works hard?

Valverde seems like a high school player every time he plays Barcas midfield.

Someone like Valverde despite amazing shooting cant compare to midfielders like De Jong, Gundogan, Pedri... they just do alot more.

He isnt really other than amazing shooting ability. Pops up with a great goal every 4 or 5 matches but doesn't mean he is a net positive.

Main problem with him last seasons is not physically up to it and slows down a lot as the season goes on. Agree he was alright but going to be a problem as season goes on because he just can't handle being a starter anymore.

Seeing that they're playing likes of Garcia, Joselu, Carvajal... one has to wonder why they weren't in for Felix and Cancelo too when they were available. Would have improved their team miles.

Ancelotti has blame, but its not all him, the squad hasn't been reinforced properly either. A lot of important players have aged out or left the club and haven't been replaced or he's been forced to continue to rely on them.

Squad is just thin. Likes of Joselu and Garcia are hardly starting quality for mid table let alone Real Madrid. Neither are Carvajal or Kepa or Kroos at this point really.

Valverde is really really so overrated. I can't believe anyone ever called this player world-class just because he got an accidental assist in a CL final. Athleticism and a long shot... pretty much all there is.

Everything. He's a very complete DM. Strong in all aspects, he always looks for a line breaking or progressive pass, is good at keeping the ball, fair dribbler, great ballwinner and great physically He's still a bit raw/green though.

Doesn't really matter whether most predictions are wrong or right anyway, the important thing is some are obviously better at it than others, of course its not pointless. The best transfer market clubs will be better at that than others clearly such as Brighton.
