As far as central defenders go, he was very good in his prime. Not quite on the same league as Ramos, Godin, Chiellini, Hummels and Mertesacker but still good.

For a guy who is legit 6'4" he has to be one of the worst headers ever. Never was a threat from set pieces unlike say Ramos and Pepe who are 4-5 inches shorter.
