When it was suggested that he should be sold and Bartra is a better CB choice than him. I think Mathieu's very patchy as a CB and I'm never that confident when he's playing cause we never know if this is his good day or his bad day.

I agree with you on this, however I see more motives to do things than that. The freedom and security that money brings. The need to test your limits. The feeling that you should be "doing something with your life" that your parents drilled in you since you were a toddler (I got that one too!)...
