I dont think Gerrard can be classified as a central midfielder.He plays off the shoulder of Torres for Liverpool,similar to a Kaka position.Liverpool's central midfielder is Alonso. Gerrard might be more complete but I wouldnt trade Xavi for anything.He is the ebst in the business.

Cryuff was better no doubt but he was not Barca's greatest.During Cryuff's time we won a single league title. If not Laudrup then who should be our greatest ever player? I cant think of anyone besides Kubala.Then again we didnt win the European Cup during his time.

My point being that no matter who plays DM we always have the lions share of possession and consequently the DM has less work to do.
