He's no where near good enough. In fact he's the worst of the EPL top 6 attacking midfielders (Barkley being debatable).

Vermaelen isn't good as a LB... Maybe in a 3 man defence. He doesn't offer as much going forward as Alba and is worse defensively even. Atleast Alba is somewhat fast.

I don't think he'd go from 1 bench to the other and trade in a lot of wages. He was on 85K/week at Arsenal, so something around that.

But even in his best days at Arsenal he was liked for his goals not his defending. He still made a lot of tactical errors and last ditch tackles (which now after age and injuries will result in a goal often).
