    Champions League

Real have never got knocked out in the group stage since it came in. THey didn't always qualify in the 90s when it was champions only.

    Champions League

La Liga is finished. Worst Madrid side since Cruyff was Barca manager and they're champions.

    Edinson Cavani

His finishing lets him down at times. His movement in the box is among the best of his generation.

    Edinson Cavani

I've said for the last 2 years he'd be a better version of Suarez.

    Lionel Messi - v7

It's the travel as much as the games with Messi. He's always a write off the game after an international break with all the travel. Getting the CL wrapped up quickly means he can skip the long trips to Eastern Europe. He can play the Juve game though at home.

    Lionel Messi - v7

Of course it does. He's 33. It was no wonder he wasn't great last week after traveling back and playing in South America 3 days earlier.

    Lionel Messi - v7

He's just not getting in the positions to score from open play.

    La Liga 2020/21

I said throughout last season that it can't be right that a poor Real and Barca are so far ahead and shows how poor the league is. That isn't the case this year but Atleti likely to win it despite it being the weakest team Simeone has had. Struggling to get through a weak CL group.

    Lionel Messi - v7

Well that's up to Messi. If he goes where the money is then it's Man City/MLS or China/Qatar, possibly PSG. If he drops his demands a bit, goes to maybe one of the Milan clubs and drives them to the title (as it looks like Zlatan might at 38) then his entire last few years isn't a complete wash out.

    Lionel Messi - v7

He's obviously declined but the key is whether he can adapt his game to deal with the physical decline which has finally really hurt his level. Don't forget he was still the best player in the world in 2019 and carried a poor side to a title and the brink of a treble. Ronaldo isn't the player...

    Lionel Messi - v7

It's not though. He hasn't got the legs for the PL and going there at 34 past his best won't help his legacy. Might give him a better chance of winning the CL again at least which he won't at Barca. He should go to Italy or PSG.

    Lionel Messi - v7

He's had to travel a lot the last couple of months with the national team, wise to avoid another long haul flight. He should be fresh for the weekend. beats playing him for 90 minutes in Madrid after just coming back from Peru.

    Lionel Messi - v7

Ciro Immobile scored 36 Serie A goals last season. A 30+ journeyman who flopped outside Italy.

    Lionel Messi - v7

I'd agree that Ronaldo and Zlatan's aerial prowess help. It allows them to stand in the box and wait for service and a threat at set pieces etc. Messi is always looking to score the perfect goal from open play.

    Lionel Messi - v7

La Liga is poor at the moment, but it's easier to score in Italy. Messi was miles of it even most of last season but still top scored easily. Immobile was breaking all time scoring records last season and Ronaldo was just behind him.

    Lionel Messi - v7

If you put Zlatan in an average La Liga team would he do much? Zlatan himself walks through games. A great player but he's stayed in Italy and France most of his career (and MLS) where the game is very slow and suits him and then not done it in the CL knockouts. Ronaldo basically plays to score...

A 38 year old Zlatan scores every week over there, Quagriela top scored at 36.

    Lionel Messi - v7

I've said all season he needs to move to Italy where it's a lot slower and an old man league, but starting him today was ridiculous given the international break.

    Lionel Messi - v7

Didn't get back from South America until Thursday. Like after the last break he shouldn't be starting today. Bring him on at half time or on 60.

Good job he didn't go there, or he'd be blamed for them being shit as well.
