but isn't that just the "weakness" ploy? before the world cup the good team all play like "oh no, what a crisis" and then at the world cup when no one is expecting them - BAM! the ol' fork in the eye!

hmmm that's a good question. I'd say in the world cup qualification in 2009 they were at the height of their powers, before torres and iniestas injuries. They were completely unplayable at that time. The world cup itself was less glamorous, but i'd put that down to injuries and also after the...

    Carlo Ancelotti

His reaction after bale's goal was the best thing of the whole evening https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlYBxcQMXGc half sir, half godfather really makes you appreciate how horrible mourniho was as a coach both for real and their rivals in comparison

    Andrés Iniesta

There is a clip of him as a kid, where he says he supports madrid all the way. So, of course, he was asked about that a couple of times in interviews and such and his explanation is pretty funny: He said that as a kid he leaned more towards barca than madrid, but his main team was albacete...

    La Liga 2013/2014

No, not at all. I have tons of respect for this atletico and simeone, and if they win it will be fully deserved. But they had plenty of chances to finish the job in the last weeks, and they still hold all the aces. If we get away with the title, then atletico have nobody but themselves to blame

    England

quick question, do you guys think that a joint great britain national team would be significantly stronger than england, in the long run? I really don't know much about the british football situation, but just in principle i always thought it's quite a handicap for the home nations to play...

    Cristiano Ronaldo - v1

btw, since he's already 29, it will be interesting to see how he plays as a 30+ player. He's a curious one, ronaldo. I had him pegged down as an athletic lunkhead who would totally implode once age catches up, but i'm not so sure anymore. he seems to be smart and disciplined (and not least of...

    Andrés Iniesta

i match your 5 and raise you 6, because then he could play in the 2020 "continental euro". Which would be an exit worthy of a don (the 2022 wc in freaking quatar with 38 might be a bit much) I'm no oracle, but i have the feeling that iniesta could very well retain his high level for some years...

but why....why would you even do such a thing! the iniesta thread was a place of calm and peaceful devotion. What kind of twisted person would wish to disturb that

    Dilemma

I think you have misunderstood the concept of sportsmanship. you do not follow an ethical code to impress others or get perks. you do it for yourself and for it's own sake. At any rate, guys, i think we should stop it here. Hitler's already been mentioned, and that's generally a good sign to...

    Dilemma

@evilhita666 very well said, my sentiment exactly. And fortunately, the sentiment of our players as well. I have complete faith in their sportsmanship. In every sports competition, professional or amateur, the core principle is: everyone gives his best and tries to reach his full potential...

    Xavi Hernández

Why would tata need backing to bench a player and from whom? that's what i've been trying to say, influence and legendary status are all good and well, but when push comes to shove, xavi is a player like any other. I'm just saying that, because people here blame xavi himself for the amount of...

    Xavi Hernández

actually i do think he abides to anything the coach says, just like any other player. I can imagine that he is involved more in tactical discussion than let's say tello or song, and maybe tata even takes his opinion into consideration now and then. But i refuse to believe that tata has made any...

    Xavi Hernández

I agree with all the assessments that we need to find a replacement, he needs to play less, etc. what i find a bit bizarr is that people here make it sound as if he decides whether he plays or for how long. Yes he is a legend and yes, tata may be not as respected as pep, but barca is still a...

    Dilemma

Undermining our integrity aside, throwing the game would also signifcantly spoil the triumph for atletico. from my own experience i can say that the worst outcome of any competition is winning after your opponent let's you win. Especially considering that real fans would never live it down.

at first everyone will be like, haha puyi is our coach now, that's funny. Then puyol storms in with a whip "THE DAYS OF SLACKING ARE AT AN END!"

tbh, for me it's national stadiums that don't make sense, especially in nations with successful clubs and several worthy stadiums to choose from. i also like it when the national team "travels" around, so that nearly everyone can support them once in a while from next to their home town.
