    10 - Lionel Messi - v5

Out of the players I've seen (which really is only 2003/04 onwards cause that's when I could make head or tails of anything) - Messi, Ronaldo, Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets. Of all time - Messi, Maradona, Pele. After that, I really don't know. But I guess I would have both Ronaldos, Cruyff...

    Ivan Rakitić

The biggest benefactor of the switch to 4-4-2. Not talking about today's game but the season in general. He looks so much more comfortable in the center than on the right side of a 3-man midfield.

    11 - Ousmane Dembélé - V1

What shitty tactics from Lucho? Barca's midfield was porous last season because the personnel do not have the physical capacity to defend with a single pivot and provide support in attack at the same time. Not like they were providing much support in attack anyway. Yeah 4-4-2 is a stop-gap...

Barca's current midfield is not good enough for a 4-3-3.

Best player of all time. Nice goal and celebration.

    7 - Philippe Coutinho - V1

Love Coutinho and he was absolutely needed. However, he surely is not fitting into a midfield position as of now. And he seems pretty poor defensively. So I'm not certain about the long-term viability of him playing in a 4-3-3 until he improves in that aspect. Have absolutely no clue how he...

You take away from Ronaldo all the time though with your comments. Over the past few years, Ronaldo has scored against all kinds of defences consistently, regardless of whether Madrid is dominating the game or camped in their own half playing on the counter. The diminishing of his goal tally...

    Sergi Roberto

Roberto was left exposed because Chelsea outclassed Barca tactically. Barca were completely outnumbered in the centre of the park because Hazard and Willian went so narrow, it was basically Hazard-Giroud-Willian-Kante-Cesc in the middle vs Busquets-Rakitic and Iniesta. Roberto was very likely...

    11 - Ousmane Dembélé - V1

Those players do not play in a 4-4-2. And Neymar tracked back a lot for Barca the last 1.5 seasons or so, despite playing in a 4-3-3. Dembele's profile surely fits a 4-3-3 more, but playing him on the right in a 4-4-2 is indeed risky, and the tracking back requirement is much stronger.

Messi copying the Gomes look to improve his decoy game.

    Marco Verratti

The messages criticizing Verratti are funny because a player of his profile is exactly what Barca is missing at the moment, and he would be key to unlocking EV's drab football.

Well if you're not trolling, then the Gareth Bale quote in your signature is more profound than all of your comments put together.

14/15 was an anomaly. The trend has been clear otherwise. And yeah, variety is sorely needed. Both him and Barca try to do the same thing when confronted by two close Banks of 4. And it grows stale and stops working because teams have figured it out

He reduced movement off the ball as early as the 2013/14 season. His current playmaking role is sub-optimal, he is still one of the furthest forward Barca players, not like he's a midfielder. And he was dropping deep and playmaking as early as 2010/11 season. I think he would be a more dangerous...

    Cr150

-------Continuing from previous post------ I mean, some dude on this forum was trying to explain to me that Messi hasn't lost any explosiveness or movement off the ball since he was younger, but look at the first goal from that CL semi at Bernabeu in 2011 as an example. How often does Messi...

Messi missed a good few chances in a crucial second leg against Juve last year. He was also generally lackluster in many knockout rounds in the past few years. Also he might get more chances created for him by his team if he moves his ass a bit without the ball.

I agree with everything you've said. Messi is in an unfortunate situation right now, however over the past few seasons I think his KO performances have been lackluster individually as well (bar that 14/15 season). This season is hopefully different, but he is hampered by his team a fair bit...

    Champions League 2017/18

I don't think Barca are playing the most aesthetically superior football in Europe since the beginning of Tata's season (that's 5 years in total) besides a few spells in second half 14/15 and first half 15/16. City have been far superior aesthetically to Barca this season, and Napoli are up...
