Even for his sake it would be better if he just rides the bench rest of the season even if he returns next month.
If Flick puts him in and he fucks it up in the CL or in the close La Liga race then it's going to be really nasty.
As for the other reports then ter Stegen has a lot of supporters in the press. Among all the players from the old guard he's the one who probably has received the least amount of criticism from the mainstream guys.

He wont be No1 this season even if Flick thinks he is best GK at club.
There is not the time left to play him into fitness the way has done for others and margins too thin if it goes wrong to recover.

Forget marboro I would start a retired scenzney on crack before I would want stegen. I hope he finds a team and be gone. He is not a a keeper to win big trophies.. not now at least

Remember how long was Flick keeping Tek on the bench out of respect for Peña who was great and didn't want to drop him for no reason?
After the embarrassing run of form, Tek replaced him and even after that Peña was given a match against Getafe to prove him wrong - we drew the match after he conceded a dumb goal, and that's the last game Peña played for us.
I think he will give the same treatment to Tek. Currently he's undefeated in Barça shirt, if the impressive record goes on Flick has no reason to bench Tek and he won't.
This is unless there are intervetions from the board that won't love to see their "captain" on the bench but I hope nobody hates this club that much.

Tek should stay number 1 for the rest of the season.
MATS coming in can ruin things. The keeper's presence rubs off on the entire team. Especially in clutch moments and big CL games.
If Flick lets MATS come back and be the number 1 this season, he'll be the dumbest manager in the world.
