Because retirement decision is rarely about being able to play in high level
Football is all what those guys know ,they won't retire unless they feel they can't enjoy it anymore or are ready for a new phase in their life

Why didn't he just retire and go out with what's left of his dignity? He's only embarrassing himself now.
I think the reason he wanted to move away was because he probably felt that he was under-rated as he played for FC Barcelona with the superstars hogging the lime-light. And actually it was true too, he was definitely under-rated with neutrals only pointing out his stupid mistakes turning a blind-eye towards his actually good sweeper ability.

He probably wanted to prove himself in a setting away from Barcelona so that he would not remain as a forgotten memory in the history. But the injury really fcuked him up I guess and may be he did not handle the scenario well either, I mean he didn't have to burn his bridges with Barcelona!

Hard to take a logical explanation in Valdes case (even when they sound plausible) because he was/is a troubled guy.
At least we can remember him for all he did for Barca. How he saved us in 2006 CL Final will always stay with me.

Wow, I just found out he left the Belgian team he was on.

Such a sad story smh. And for folks asking why he left, he was BROKE! Bad investments and terrible real estate decisions fcked him over. Spain's economy is in the shits and has been for a while. Monaco were just assholes and renegaded when he got injured.

Hopefully he can find a club in China or the Middle East if he still has financial issues. Terrible way to end his career though. He was having his best season before the injury.

They didn't have anymore games left?

Yes, play off games with all the weaker clubs in the league fighting for a potential Europa League ticket. Think the club and Valdés decided it was time to call it quits after the regular season was over and they failed to qualify for the championship play offs.

Yeah I'd grow my hair out too, get some facial reconstruction surgery and maybe even change my name if I chose to play for that vile piece of shit Karanka.
