10 - Ansu Fati

Why was he taken off just after 52 minutes? Just another 8 mins would have been fine, but no, Setien had to blueball us. If Ansu doesn't play at least 30 mins vs Sevilla I'm rioting

Clearly a power move from Setien who is secretly a KKK member #fatiminutesmatter

Here's what Seiten had to say.

Quique Seti?n: "The substitution of Ansu Fati? He has been suffering from discomfort for some time and has not been able to train at the same pace as his teammates. He had a very good first 45 minutes."

This!

Sell for anything over 100m!

Sell for 150m? Yes please

More likely to be the next Bojan

?? We sell academy players all the time lmfao where did this attitude come from?

This type of shit represents the worst of the worst in our fanbase. Willing to throw high level talents away while simultaneously being a bootlicker for a guy who is the biggest snake in the history of football in Neymar. The guy has like what, 3 active lawsuits against Barcelona still currently open? And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Ansu averages a goal every 140 minutes and he's fucking 16/17 years old.

And these aren't just statpadding goals at the end of 4-0 blowout wins against minnows. Every single goal he's scored has been an opener or a gamewinner/equalizer and he's also done so at tough away grounds. Scoring and assisting against Valencia is no small feat, knocking out the best team Inter has had in years at San Siro to become the youngest CL scorer ever is no small feat.

What the hell does this kid have to do to convince some fans that he is a legit talent with a great mentality that DESERVES loyalty from the club? He goes like 2-3 games without a goal and people forget the crazy shit that he's been doing at a young age and are willing to overlook him. The expectations are insane.

He's not just some cash cow to fatten up his value and dump him off to the highest bidder. He has worked hard and given his life to make it through the ranks of the club, he and his family have shown great dedication and love for Barca. We need to believe in him, prioritize his development, and give him the chances that he's clearly been earning game by game.

? Alot of players look good and never kick off. For 150m why not sell and invest it in mbappe.

This is FC Barcelona we don't sell players just because we can flip them for a hefty profit. We're not a selling club. Out of the 20 players listed in the first team roster there is basically 90% of them I would look to sell before thinking of Ansu.

We should sell players if they don't fulfill a valuable role in the squad and the competitive spot in their roster would be clearly better filled by someone else. And even that isn't an absolute criteria as certain veterans should allowed to stay within the team even if they could be replaced out of respect, as long as they accept an appropriate role as we did with Xavi/Puyol/Iniesta.

To fund transfers like Mbappe or whoever (even though he is unrealistic) there are plenty of other players we could sell that would make much more sense, and if not then so be it. We do not need to have every single superstar name in football that's not how the game works.

Why are you so confident that Ansu will end up like Bojan or Munir? The reverse is just as likely if not more. Guys like Mbappe, Neymar, and Hazard all had extremely promising seasons as teenagers and went on to prove themselves as world class. Ansu is even younger than they were, he has plenty of potential to become a great player.

*Little side monologue about the comparisons between Ansu and Bojan or other failed prospects*

I don't really see how he is comparable to Bojan. Aside from scoring at the top level at a young age, they have very little in common as players. Despite being compared to Messi, Bojan lacked a lot of the same skills even given the benefit of the doubt for his youth. His dribbling was always mediocre at the top level, bar the very occasional moment, and he never showed any vision. Wasn't really polished or ahead of his years in passing play either. To top it all off he had a very obvious athletic ceiling that limited him with his tiny frame and lack of burst.

He was also clearly handicapped by his mentality and confidence even early on. Refused multiple calls from the NT to join the squad and make his debut. He was on anxiety medication from the very beginning.

In contrast, one of the most impressive things about Ansu is how polished and intuitive he is with 1-2's and passing play. He also regularly shows flashes of great dribbling even tho he makes mistakes, rather than avoiding those situations. He has created great chances for players in many of his appearances and that he only has 1 assist undersells that, even Messi has missed some clear cut chances from Ansu. Also clearly faster than Bojan and a stronger/more athletic build too (winning a tough aerial duel to score a header for his first goal).

Even outside of the goals, he is showing flashes of great talent and no flagrant Achilles heel. With guys like Deulofeu and Adama, they clearly had the dribbling and athleticism but basically everything else on the ball and off it were severely lacking and everyone said they would have to overcome those hurdles to become great players which they inevitably didn't. Ansu however has the off ball movement and instincts that those two sorely lacked, he has the passing combination abilities that they never showed, and he is able to put those things together at the top flight while Deulofeu/Adama didn't actually produce anything in the first team appearances they had. Munir as well basically became clearly shit after his debut and goal against Elche, never sustained it to any level.

So where exactly can we point to Ansu having those kinds of critical weaknesses? He is very confident, hungry, and driven with everyone commending his work ethic. The odds of him secretly being as anxiety ridden as Bojan was are extremely slim. He is good both on the ball and off of it, shows promising football IQ and ability to produce goals.

The most you can say is that his dribbling isn't as obviously dominant as young prospects in Adama/Deulofeu/Neymar/Hazard (3 of whom have gone on to be some of the best dribblers in the entire sport). But even then his talent in that regard is still well above average and it doesn't have to be the main strength of his game. Mbappe's dribbling is not that fantastic outside of his speed, and a guy like Haaland is especially poor at that but still a top young player. Aguero/Rooney were also young phenoms that still turned out world class and were never mazy dribblers.

In short, prospects that fail tend to be prospects that have large holes in their game for which they have to jump large hurdles to overcome and end up not doing so. For Ansu, this doesn't seem to be a glaring issue. He's by no means guaranteed to succeed but he is very well set up to do so.

Haaland Mbappe Ageuro and Rooney are strikers? They shouldn't have dribbling on par with wingers.

My problem with Fati? Ok he is not that fast, his dribbling isn't that good, his work rate is poor.

These are all areas that usually don't show improvement, I like him alot don't get me wrong but for 150m we sell and reinvest in areas we need.

It's a unique opportunity to do so considering covid left everyone broke and we can reinvest the money in key positions.

150m secures our long term CBs, gets a creative midfielder, and still have money left over.

Does anyone see Fati and think future GOAT? He is very good though will probs develop into a 80m player but 150m is too good to pass up sorry.

What's the point of having an academy, then?
We are not some second tier feeder club who sells to balance the books.
We are a club which develops players so they can play for the first team.

How about we don't pay 110 million for Lautaro and keep Fati. This kid is the future. His temperament is excellent and I think he will be similar to Aguero when he develops.

Yes keep every single player from the academy and never sell them until the end of time

If we hypothetically sold Ansu for 150m then how much do you think his replacement would cost? Have we not learnt from Neymar money how much a high profile sale will effect our subsequent moves. Unless there was a smart buyout clause that dramatically improves our first 11 at the AML then selling Ansu is not as good as the money sounds.

This is the first LaMasia attacking talent that actually has first team potential in years and we have some of the fanbase talking about selling him because he wasn't attempting high risk dribbles in this matches early goings. When actually, the fact he was not attempting them and instead filtered possession until the right corridors opened showed just how good his football IQ is at such a young age.
