I think it is, friendlies don't count for the season record of a player. But the nt's keep the goal scoring record for friendlies.

He will beat Gerd Mullers 67 , who cares about international and club total goalscoring combined.

Amount of international goals will depend on whether there is an international tournament that the player will be competing in , for Messi there isnt.

They count. Goals and caps are added to players statistics officially. For example it is well known that Pele scored 77 goals in 92 games for Brazil. However 34 were in friendlies and 17 were in tournaments that could be considered friendlies. Only 17 of Maradonas 34 goals were in 'non-friendlies' but he is credited with 34 officially. The record for most goals in a single season is set by Pele at 75 for club and country. Messi is currently on 68 as his 3 against Switzerland count towards his tally this season.

He has 63 and with all the games remaining I just fancy him for the record. I think he wants it badly as well.

Every season with only frendlies for the nt and Messi only got counted the ones he scored for Barça. Friendlies are counted only for the statistics, but when for the official goals scored in the season I've never seen them count.

Not only would an away goal from Messi be majestic for the team's momentum in the tie, but it would be record breaking as well. Something he is good at doing.
