Follow the player's career, he's had conflicts at every club he's been at and has been deemed to have disciplinary issues...His credibility is next to nil

this is the best play of messi i've ever seen. as always the best plays go usually under the radar, just because they lost the game. i mean they didn't show this play even in different camera angle. :(

Indeed. This is the disallowed goal Mourinho used to criticize Pep for and for which he got humiliated in the CL a few days later.

This is one of Messi's best dribbles along with his dribble against Atletico when he beat four defenders in a couple of seconds and was fouled in the penalty area but the ref unsurprisingly didn't call it. Some years back, he had one hell of a game against Villarreal and had a couple of extraordinary dribbles in that game too.

Oh yeah, a couple of mesmerizing moves against Levante too, neither of which resulted in goals. This one is unbelievable in that it's against the butchers of Madrid and his final pass is magical.

There are way too many magical moments to mention. Like Ray says, he's like a clown's pocket. :)

Freaking linesman ruined the best goal in the history of the game. A proper linesman lets it run, even if it is offside. Just for the beauty of it. Fss.

As long as proper linesmen don't call our legit goals offside, I wouldn't complain.

Exactly, their own coaches have been doing such a marvelous job in the last two decades or so.

For your information there are plenty of excellent coaches in Argentina thank you. None who were picked to be the senior coach due to the idiots who are in charge of the AFA.

May I remind you that a lot of the philosophy expounded at La Masia is based on coaching from Argentina. Ask Pep where he get's a lot of his ideas from via Bielsa back to Menotti.

River Plate with Cesarini created total football , Zubeldia introduced rigorous dieting and rigorous football analysis. We're not talking about some half baked footballing nation here. :shakeshead:

Some of the most sucessful current coaches in South America are Argentine.

then why the NT has been sucking for the past 2 decades??

Because the AFA has too much influence. The coaches lack the autonomy needed. Also AFA tends to occasionally hire inefficient coaches.

maybe, but theyhad some great players without matching that with success. Bielsa had a great squad in 2002. Batista was brilliant with the u-23 team but sucked with the seniors!!

I just don't get it. it's understandable for now, they only have great strikers + Mascherano. the rest of the team is the worst.

I disagree.

They have a dominant keeper in Orion. Wait till he gets some more minutes and you'll see.

Messi is practically a midfielder for that system so with him and Pastore you have serious quality. Politics and disagreements kept Riquelme out, and if they were to get him back, they'd have world class tempo control and playmaking, thus pushing Messi in a more advanced role. There is also Cambiasso, one who showed just last week that he is still capable of being quality at CM, so the talent is there in midfield. Ever Banega is class as well (when he gets back from injury), as well as Mighty Mouse Buonanotte.

Defensively I'd say there is more talent in Argentina Primera than there is in Europe, but that's just me. I'm not sure NT coaches are willing to take the risk in picking out unproven players at this point. Maradona made a mess of that already. Defense is definitely a pain point, to put it mildly.

Which isn't even true. Banega and Cambiasso aren't pub players. Coloccini had a great season with Newcastle. Garay and Fernandez didn't look too bad either the last time they played for Argentina. I haven't seen Zabaleta getting embarrassed playing for title winning City. There should be one or 2 young promising fullbacks as well somewhere. They might not be on Spain's or Germany's level in the midfield and defensive department. But they certainly aren't worse than the Netherlands or Uruguay and Uruguay got further than Argentina in both the WC and the Copa America. And this is how the Netherlands lined up in the WC final:

----------------RvP-------------------
Kuyt----------Sneijder----------Robben
---------------------------------------
----------MvB-------De Jong-----------
---------------------------------------
GvB-----Mathijsen---Heitinga------GvdW

Come on, please don't tell me that Argentina can't match this. They have a similar front 6 as Real Madrid IMO. Agüero / Higuain instead of Benzema. Messi instead of Özil. Di Maria = Di Maria. And Lavezzi on the left wing. Mascherano instead of Khedira. And Banega instead of Xabi Alonso. Can you seriously say that player by player Real Madrid's front 6 is any better? I'd try Coloccini and Mascherano at the back and Cambiasso in defensive midfield. If they all work together, they are favourites for the WC title. They don't lack the players. They lack the cohesiveness, coordination and self-believe.

Okay, I know they have good players at the back and some in midfield.

but why don't they perform well for the NT. I've seen Banega as the weakest link in CA 2011, so was Cambiasso when he played before.

for Collocini, he's old and never was a class defender but for this and the last season. I've seen him with Depor as their problem in defence. and it's not easy to judge the rest based on how the NT been playing since a long time now. Argentina have good players as individuals, but as a team! shame it's not so good.

Di maria, Pastore, Lavezzi, Coloccini, Banega..shame that in the end, for different reasons, Messi has to play in front of Demichelis, Brana, Sosa with creative support from a single player: Aguero.
