Jorge Messi in a recent interview:

"He felt bad about Guardiola leaving, for all they've lived together, but now he looks forward to working with Tito."

"Based on what Leo told me, Neymar is a great kid. They've talked, get along well, I think he's a good person"

"I'm very proud about Leo as a person, a son, a human being. He has values that go beyond playing football."

I'm glad I made the long 10-hour trip from Canada this past weekend to witness history. Payed extra for the fancy section but it paid off big time when I watched Messi make his run from half line to score a wonder goal before my eyes. It was unreal. I sit now and try to remember what happened but he made it look so easy. Seeing Messi play live is different than on TV. I kept thinking of what is like to watch him play tiki-taka along Xavi and Iniesta? I MUST make it to a Barca champions league game someday soon before Xavi retires. Don't think my heart can handle the excitement of a classico. This is too much fun to miss and at any cost.

A couple years back, I got treated to the Real Madrid game vs Villarreal (6:2). I couldn't pass the chance of free VIP seats at the bernabeu so I didn't say a word about how I hate Madrid but seeing Marco Senna and CR7 score from and long free-kick was unreal and Messi generously treated us, his fans to an experience of a lifetime. His goals were beautiful but the 3rd ahh....to top that he sealed a hat-trick against of all teams Brazil! My God how lucky was I? I lost my voice cheering for Argentina and Messi. I kept praying like a child in the stadium after he scored two goals for a hat-trick. I remember even raising my arms and asking Messi's grandma for magic (I had few beers ). Being an old fan of Argentina, and seeing Messi play in front of me was surreal. We got spoiled. It was a tango-samba party like no other.

Messi broke this season all time world record of goal scoring for a club, 73. How does this compare to other high goal scoring seasons of past greats? 67 Gerd Müller 72-73 was a European record for 39 years before Messi broke it. Pelé’s best goal scoring season was 1958 when he scored 66 goals.

But which of these incredible goal scoring seasons is the best one? Like, first glance you would say Pele’s and Müller’s seasons were better, because they played less games and had better goals per game ratio:

Messi 73/60 = 1,22 goals per game

Müller 67/49 = 1,37 goals per game

Pelé 66/46 = 1,43 goals per game

But then again, back then scoring was more of a premium than preventing goals, than nowadays. So it was easier to score on average and goals were scored in higher averages. Example Müller scored 12 of his 67 goals in DFP Ligapokal competition, were goal scoring average was 7.75. almost 8 per game! That’s pretty insane.

So how do you measure so different situations, so different times? One viable method to examine these is the so called era adjusting, used widely also in sports, to compare goal totals in different eras. It basicly takes into account both of the previous arguments, goal scoring averages, and amount of games played.

First you take the average number of goals scored in the particular competitions players played, and compare them to the particular player. From this you get the era adjustment ratio. Then you compare the amount of games played, which you get the schedule adjustment ratio. The overall ratio you get when you multiply: era adjustment ratio x schedule ratio.

The adjustment shows how much better you were than the average goal scorer at the time, and with that comparison Messi’s 73 goals in 60 games is more impressive, or further away from the average, than example Pele’s 66 goals in 46 games. In this table we have era adjusted statistics of Messi’s, Müller’s and Pelé’s best goal scoring seasons:

Messi : We are very sad because Rosario Argentina has lost his bid for Pan 2019. An undeserved decision because Rosario, my hometown, was the candidate with the best existing infrastructure.

Diego Maradona has hit out at the critics of Barcelona star Lionel Messi.

"[Messi does] do not have the leadership that I had, or the face of Brad Pitt or Salazar's ass, but he is Argentine and must be defended," he told reporters.

"If you keep breaking his b***s he is going to stay in Barcelona and will not come again."

He appears to be leading rather well recently (and i think he has since being made captain). Bit harsh even if he meant it well. Maybe a slight insecurity n Diegos part

(depends whens this was said obv)

Well he sure as hell is leading his team now and I don't see that stopping if Arg continue on with stability and a coach that lasts more than 2 years.
