I think the bar for world class managers has to be higher than Rijkaard. He may yet become one but he isn't yet.

tbh he guided the dutch to the semi's of the euros. and you can't blame him for the elimination coz how many pens did the dutch miss? even in the game itself? mad.

and then what he did with us was amazing. look where the team was when he started and look where we were when he finished. even after a year of underachievement, look where we were. magic.

That Italy - Netherlands game was ridiculous. I was REALLY into supporting the dutch back then (still do) because of their style of play, their luck was crazy. I think they had something like 70% possession that match too. It just wasn't meant to be, Rijkaard could do nothing about it.

The quality of that team demanded more.

There are only few coaches whose work can be separated from the work of the players in the total contribution to success, till now Rijkaard is nowhere close to being one of them. He has had success true, but how much of that was his contribution is suspect. For me Rijkaard has alot to more to prove before he can be called world class. I doubt I would put him in my top 20 managers coaching currently, let alone top 10 which is what world class should coaches should be limited to.

How much is 'that much'? Pep would do anything to prevent the club from selling him, and if they were to sell him it would be for a ridiculous amount.
