He's forced to wear whatever his sponsor sends him, just like all other players. Sometimes they probably have input on what is done if it's a special kind of model or something, but usually, they're just wearing the boots to showcase the manufacturer's latest design. That's also the reason why they change boots, or should I say, color patterns on boots so often. If you frequent Nike or Adidas stores, for example, you'll see that every few months they put out a whole new line of the same model, but with different color patterns. Then they have famous players wear the new design to make kids want to buy the new ones.

For example, here's Iniesta throughout last season. The same CTR360 model.

Iker had to pay 2M because of the same shit and still being investigated. Level of hypocrisy in and around of Madrid/Spanish media.
