By the end of this season Messi is going to have very high assisting stats me thinks.
Now that we have Suarez instead of Alexis to put Leo's balls away he is going to rain assists down.
Not to mention him possibly playing behind Suarez and Neymar.

All top 10 assists are from the 10-11 and 11-12 seasons,if i am not mistaken.Unforunately,this proves two things:1)He is not the same anymore 2)His teammates' movements and the team's tactics are not at the same level as before

Not the best assists though are from the last couple of seasons. Top 10 has 0 assists from 12/13 or 13/14. Top 20 has 1 assist (to Cesc vs Malaga) from 12/13 or 13/14. I won't count the assist to Di Maria in the world cup as it's not Barca. Top 30 has 2 assists, top 40 has 4 assists, top 50 has 8 assists. Those last 4 are not that great, which is why they're so low on the list. Also, his assist stats have dropped from 25-28 in 10/11 and 11/12 to 14-16 in 12/13 and 13/14.
So not really cherry-picking, as he said the team's movement and tactics are not the same level as before.
btw #40 should be top 5 imo.

If Messi, Suarez, and Neymar all stay healthy; I guarantee Messi will get at least 25 assists in all competitions. You can put that in the I told you so thread.

Haven't really noticed it until now but it's uncanny how many of Tello's goals Messi assists with this signature left-sided through balls. Tello turns on the pace with a direct run and Messi just curls it to him either over the top or on the ground slicing through the defense. The best example of this was Tello's hat trick against Levante with Leo making what was more or less the same type of assist for all of the goals.
I'd say that in our current squad, Deulofeu is the player that is capable/tends towards making that sort of run and combination with Messi (provided that he's playing on the left at the particular moment) given that he's faster than anyone else. However I don't see why either Suarez or Neymar couldn't do the same (assuming that Neymar is more consistent in making runs than last season) or even Alba on a daring overlap.

Tello was certainly great at getting onto those diagonal through balls, its just a shame that so few teams play with a high line against us. It's not exactly much use for breaking buses.

OR proves nothing of the sort. IMO, the obvious primary reason:
3) Opponents have adapted defensively to make it harder to create goals from passing (iow, parking the bus).
