Nobody denies that, but he just had a bit more burst before however you look at it.. perhaps its also due to his playstyle, muscles that are not used often are not so well developed, he was very explosive in his early 20s and so on, same as Robben is now or Ronaldo or Ribery for that matter, but Messi is not, he strolls around the pitch alot, walks alot, RARELY do we see him explode and use his speed, hence his muscles are not so used to it and they deteriorated a bit in that regard, his playstyle really is odd, he should use it more to get past players like Neymar but doesn't.

Well ive seen him use it recently but his playstyle is just different, it looks like hes going to be on the wing now so you'll see it now, whenever hes on the wing (He doesnt cut inside as much now because theres 10 defenders waiting for him) he'll run past 2 or 3 players before pulling the ball back into the box with ease.

Enough said. Now expand that to la liga level, european level, world level, galaxy level and observable universe level.

The selective amnesia in this forum relating to Messi is very troublesome, truly. It's like Messi running riot on Ajax just 5 days ago never really happened...

He didn't exactly run riot though. He had a good last 20 mins where he looked motivated to beat the record and was starting every attack. The first goal was a freak goal and the 2nd was good determination to get on the end of that ball. He hardly had any other chances other than those but in my opinion that's down to our poor tactics and midfield.

He still created a chance for Neymar and Suarez.

The goals were very unlike Messi goals in my opinion. If he hadn't scored those everyone would have slated him... Don't get me wrong he had a pretty good performance.. but "Running riot"?

Messi vs Ajax had 2 goals(only goals), 8 shots 4 on target(most), 6 dribbles(most), 3 key passes(most), 3 accurate through-balls(most), 1 tackle, and 85% passing accuracy. Yeah, that's running riot on a team. That's a one man offense.

You pretty much just proved why I say people have selective amnesia when it comes to Messi performances.

And the second goal was very much a Messi type goal. Dribble right to left, through ball to left wing, race to middle to convert the return cross.

Like Neymar? What? Neymars dribbling has been very average compared to what may of us expected. When do we see Neymar explode past players? I love the dude but lets not compare their dribbling.

Yesterday night, we had some chitchat regarding situation of Messi. That was interesting.

This year, it seems more difficult for Messi to score. Some say he is now miles behind CR7. Some say he is finished.

Actually, it seems Messi is not as efficient as before. He needs more shoots to score. His superhuman precision seems to have vanished.

LRT from @erMESSIdi (interesting account!) shows the data. Messi's conversion rate is lower than ever. Why ?

Messi's conversion rate is lower than ever because he is now required to do much more than before. His game is changing.

Barça have problems to get the ball to the opponent´s half. All teammates expect Leo to make it happen.

Barça players do not rely on a strong tactical basis to put Leo, their best assist, in good conditions. So Leo decides to go for it.

And for Messi, "to go for it" means "give me the ball and I'll do everything". That's why we see Messi so deep this year. Look at next RT!!

So Messi starts to play in his own half, passes the ball, takes on, progresses... takes full responsability of his team ! With little help.

Teammate are far away from him and do not create easy passing options. No double-triple passes, no combination... He is alone.

When teammates are closer and know how to position themselves, those things happen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4L8rgok7lA … Otherwise they don't.

Summing up, we have Leo seeing himself "alone" against 11. However he manages to create opportunities. But this has a price.

When Messi has the chance to shoot, he is much more tired than before. This explains the lower conversion rate, posts, failed take ons..

This reminds me of Messi during World Cup with Argentina. "Secure the back, Leo will invent something on his own !"

I was struck by what happened vs Holland during semifinal extra time. (Captures are in spanish).

Argentina could not progress with the ball, so Messi got deep to help. In his own half. Ball went to throw in. pic.twitter.com/YHEG6SsxYp

Messi got the ball back. But he has no help. He will have to struggle vs 3 Oranje, plus 2 waiting for him. pic.twitter.com/K5ahAjwV8p

Messi managed to progress and not loose the ball. But now even more difficult: alone vs 2 and the touchline behind. pic.twitter.com/MXllgIV4Ad

Still Messi take them on. After running 50 meters, he sees Maxi in good position. He crosses with his bad foot. pic.twitter.com/FbabaijDQg

The video of Messi vs Holland. "Messi does everyhing" http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x218xdy_argentina-holanda-messi-hace-de-todo_sport …

And regardless of this kind of stuff, people will tell you: "Messi badly failed at World Cup". Come on, badly failed ?!!?

Barça is likely to not win anything this season. And people will say: "Nah, Messi is finished. He just walks on the pitch." Open your eyes !

As @Otsuka2011 said: All this should add to Messi's legend. But people will think it is his failure.
