Watching highlights v. Croatia, he's marked so heavily. Always by 2, often by 3, sometimes by 4 or 5.

Yup and still he manages them and plays well. What I don't understand is that other players can't take more advantage of that...I mean if he is marked by at least 2 that would mean that at least 1 other player is unmarked....

Its been like that for years now, it comes with the territory of being one of the greatest players of all time if not the greatest. The fact that he still performs better than everyone else only compounds his greatness.

That's fine and dandy but I don't see Ronaldo, Neymar, Hazard, Aguero, Di Maria, Riberi, Robben, James... and other great players being marked like that.

It just baffles my mind whenever I watch him and it's crazy how he still puts up the performances he does being smothered like that.

Messi basically himself asks to be marked like that. He drops way too deep and when you face a bus and the ball isn't transmitted fast you are bound to be surrounded by a bunch of players.

Players you brought up have different roles and tasks on the pitch.

His display versus Croatia was amazing to watch, he just takes on players with such ease, he passes like no other, dude is just so talented , if he gets his finishing back he will be unstoppable.

Not like he isnt either, but afterall the puppse of the game is to score, and messi isn't up to his standards when it comes to that.

Its the respect he gets as the best, its way easier for one player to take down the players you mentioned but with messi double teaming him is a necessity or fouling him before he can start running. But the lack of movement by anyone not named Iniesta or Xavi doesnt help him at all, if our players moved into positions to receive passes then that would mean defenders would either have to mark them and get away from messi or leave themselves open to an easy run in on goal.

He needs to have a chat with the goal post.

Lack of goals really have underrated Messi in the media.

Dude just stomps all over the field today v. Croatia. Made other world class players like Di Maria/Aguero... like little kids at the big boys playground, with Messi the only big boy.
the media has created this myth that Messi is declining, the media in general only speak about his defects nowadays compared to the attributes, people buy into it and boom you have created this whole "Messi is not the same" talk, there's been too many games since the season started that proves Messi still has it, If you say Messi is declining you have no idea what you are saying

It really hurts people say his past it because that's just not true

True my local news site barely credited his play, they just said he missed a few chances, scored a penalty and hit the post.
People then just repeat their usual opinion: walking, missing chances, past it.. without having watched the game.
Fuck em though.

what's more disgusting is how many gullible people are out there with social networks, they spread things that are not actually true and people believe it

it seems watching a game and forming an opinion yourself has become rocket science.
