This award is not about stats or trophies but on added value to the team. Yes, they have great defense but Griezmann was the only real offensive threat of Atletico last season. When Messi was injured for 2 months we still had Ney and Suarez to score, when they were in bad form, Messi usually rescued us. What would happen with Atletico if Griezmann would be injured for 2-3 months? Who would score goals for them?

IIRC he also scored the most "important" goals, so goals that lead directly to Atletico geting points. So I have absolutely no problem with Griezmann winning that award. It doesn't mean that he's better player than Suarez or Messi, just that he was more important to Atletico that Suarez or Messi were to us last season.

but why? Isn't Messi a more popular and marketable figure? If they give it to Ronaldo, it's gonna be a total joke. My guess, if not one of the MSN train, then I hope either KDB, Aubameyang or Buffon gets it :hooray:

they will give it to Ronaldo with Messi and Griezmann becoming 2/3.

Messi and Suarez are better but counting Atlético Madrid attacking stats to Barca stats is insane.

Then you can give him the MVP award like Ronaldo got a few years ago. That's not called best player though.
