Very good Performance from Lionel.

Messi should get a rest against Tottenham. Next week against Levante which won scored 5 goals against us last season.

Not a chance in hell.

CL is the main thing (especially this season) and Leo has already missed 2 games due to injury.

Leo wants to be the top scorer this season in the CL and moreover, we can't have Spurs qualifying at the Camp Nou, even if it is meaningless for us.

If we count the friendlies which are half his goals then i think one player has more than him but before the guiness records started. The commentator mentioned something last night. If we count official goals there are Josef Bican and Romário before him. Yes its the same for Pele. He was scoring like 8 goals in a game vs the peasants in Brasil.

If we go by this “official” ranking: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_men%27s_footballers_with_500_or_more_goals

Its a matter of time before Messi cruises by Pele and even Bican at 805 seems reachable. He can score 145+ before he retires imo.
I think he will end up as the second highest goalscorer in history since Ronaldo will probably not retire before he makes sure he has more than Messi.

Messi has had too much rest so this season between his injury and international breaks.

Shouldn't need rest for awhile.

What do you guys think has been the key to Messi's improvement in freekicks? Maybe Ernie has got Messi practicing them more in training

He has been at this level of freekick taking for years now. Sometimes the post or fingertips of the keeper have kept out some brilliant freekicks over the years

The key to Messi's improvement in freekicks has been Messi's determination to improve himself year after year, not because Ernie got Messi to practice more..

He ran and pressed like a man possessed, was absolutely incredible last night. When he is in that mood Barca are almost unstoppable.

Pele's comments fired him up, and maybe losing the Ballon D'or to Modric has given him even more drive to win it back next year

Six days between games helps with that. Need him fresh for Levante so it might be best if he doesn't play against spurs or just play a half. Even if he does there is still 5 days between those games

The ballon dor is not won by world class performances vs espanyol.

If he wants to win it he better show up in UCL QF, SF and finals.

Till then he'll continue ranking lower than his capabilities
