A player like Dembele is in a certain mold. Comparing him to the likes of ball control experts is counter productive. He is a scintillating and creative monster. His runs and attacks are so advanced and quick he has to slow them down on account of his much slower teammates, yes even Messi. His improvements at keeping the pass simple in link up is incredible as well and yielded less lost balls.

As important or dare I say crucial as he is to our offensive play, in particular in terms of adding pace, runs behind the opposition defense and unpredictability to our attack and overall game, risking him against Lyon at home and risking a potentially season-ending injury (or something close) would not be wise. We should be able to defeat Lyon without him. Only the Lyon game and Betis away is left until late/early April post-NT break. Ideal for him to get fully fit before the decisive part of the season.

I hope he is on the bench just in case. If we are tied or losing it would be the most important 30-40 minutes of the season. We will not need him to close out La Liga nor win the CDR in the one off vs Valencia. If we lose we don't have a major match of where we might need him for 5 months nor does France has anything of consequence.

I don't think we will need him to dominate on Weds, but nice to have him suited, and fine risking it, just in case.

Terrible news this injury. Hope he's back soon and stay healthy!

Indeed a bad news. I do hope he'll be fine very soon.
He is a great talent and already the sole character to worth watching - besides Messi.

But as a matter of fact, Dembele is only "needed" for this crucial game because the other players (apart from Messi) offer less assurances for an easy win.
A "normal" Barca should easily win at home against Lyon, which is undoubtedly not in par with Barca, but people have their doubts here and elsewhere, just because this present team is not able to make you comfortably sit in front of the screen and assure you that they are always superior.
(Do not count very lucky wins please, like the 3:0 against Madrid, because no doubt Barca was the inferior and lucky extremely team there...)

If Messi picks a good day, success will come, but he is the only one you can bet on. The rest of the players are either unpredictable - if they'll have a brilliant, good, bad or horrible game - so things depend on disposition and luck.
If the worse screen-play gets into the movie, the team would indeed need Dembele's speed, creativity and unpredictability, but under "normal" circumstances he is not "needed" for the desired win.
Messi will be there, Suarez can still score, besides his present lack of ability to handle a simple pass or ball, Coutinho's curse may be temporarily lifted by the gods, Malcom could score a lucky one as he has done that in the CL series, Pique's head could be vital and Alba's runs on the left could be successful once again, even if all teams know by now the pass he will make back to Messi... etc.

But the important scene to see is the change of good-souls towards Dembele.
Little over two month ago the folks were furious with him because he was late once or twice (as if it was an important thing compared to his performances), wanted an immediate sell and the like, so it is fun to observe that by now he is the "needed", missed, liked and crucial ingredient for the win...
Times seem to change...

If he is fully ready he should not sit on the bench at all. I am assuming that he won't be ready which is the most likely thing.
I dont think there is a real question of whether he is fully fit, like many players he wont be optimally fit even at best. Suarez hasnt been fully fit most of the season. Messi plays regularly not fully fit.

The question is if he is medically cleared (where the doctors have not taken any decision away from the manager at all) how and if to use him. Dembele rarely plays a full 90 anyway. I dont really think barca will need him at home vs lyon, so i do hope he is able to be on the bench in the 1/10 situation we dont have a goal on them by 65 minute mark or something.
