This winter is a little different with a World Cup on the horizon and Neymar/PSG completely screwing the summer window. I'm expecting a lot of deals to be done in the winter. Also, for some reason, there appears to be plenty quality players who's deals will be expiring next year and their clubs would like to cash in instead of them leaving on a Bosman. Whether Barca make a success of it is another thing though.

Like who?

Also it's not just a question of whether we're willing to buy in Janaury, but other teams also have to allow one of their best players to leave and I don't think that's likely in the middle of the season.

I can only think of Sanchez and Ozil (and Goretzka but for me it's just a hyped player), which will not have a real impact on Barca's transfers. I don't expect a really different transfer window.

Sanchez, Ozil, Herrera, Mata, Shaw, Goretzka, Meyer, Robben, Wilshere, Fellaini, De Frij, Ghoulam, Blind, Giminez.

As for allowing them to leave... You can be as pig headed as Liverpool or make some money. Letting players leave on a Bosman is just not good business...

Edit: There is also that young United winger, Pereira, out on loan at Valencia. He'd come cheap and would be a magnificent squad player for any top team.

A lot of business to be done if smart.

I'm pretty sure that Utd have an option of an extra year on most if not all of those players mentioned.

May sound stupid but I feel Blind would really suit us. He is a versitle player that can play cb, lb, dmf and has good qualities on the ball due to his Ajax past. If we could have him for free its defintly worth the go as he would be a good back up player to have.

I’ve also always liked him but I’m not sure how he’d fair at Barça. That said, if it’s a free transfer then it’s worth having a look.

While Valverde is approaching this cautious it seems like Dembele could be fit by the Classico.

Would never like to see Blind here. Guy has no technique on the ball whatsoever. Plays everything safe. More sidepasses ensuing. What's worse, I know him personally.

Not a bad shout actually. I always thought Utd should use him DM. He's a good player, if slow. And like you say, versatile. Worth thinking about as back up.

Would not want him starting in the Classico. Even if he's fully fit. It takes time to gel with the team, moreover he's out of proper football for like 6 months ish.
