You're welcome
I still see improvement in his game. No more stupid slip-ups. Less clumsly losses of the ball. Better positioning and use of his pace. More accurate passing.
You can also tell he's trying to contribute by pressing a lot and defending now although he needs the improve on the how of the latter.

Will be interesting to see how he develops further coming months.

Did nobody see him dribbling 3 or 4 Celta players at 1 time during the beginning of the 2nd half?

How many players in the world can do that?

Kid's talented, glad he's on the team. EV needs to figure a way out to get him regular minutes, too talented to be a bit player.

Don't know where others get the "unintelligent" part from him. He makes mistakes yes, (he's 20 duh) but with 13 league appearances (with 5 of them being subs) with a total of 700 minutes he's already registered 5 assists, and those assists aren't the result of the finisher's brilliance but due to the quality of his balls he provides. The only ones with a higher key pass average per game are Messi and Coutinho.

Comparing him with others with similar minutes:

Andre gomes (629 minutes):

Key passes per game = 0.2 (despite being an attacking midfielder)
Dribbles =0.6

Coutinho (approx. 900 minutes):
Key passes per game = 2
Key dribbles = 2 (Ousmane for comparison has 1.9 dribbles)
goals = 2
assists =5
Also has 11 starts

Ousmane (660mins)

Key passes = 1.5
Key dribbles =1.9
Assists = 5

Game is riddled with errors obviously, but one thing you can't deny his ability to provide creativity is immense and he's only 20! A player with that kind of end product isn't unintelligent. Tying in with another user's post, it takes awhile to get into his stride: he typically performs if he starts a match. His highest rated games are the ones he starts in. Out of the 6 starts he's had in 2018 in the league, he's assisted in 4 games and scored in one.

You should add there failed dribbles as well. (Not trying to roast Dembele, but he does seem to lose the ball a lot, same with Coutinho..) Gomes doesn't have many dribbles, but rarely tries either.

I see the point here, but you could create a video like this about every player. MAybe he expected faster pass or something.

I have to admit though, he looks clueless when he loses the ball. He doesn't know If he has to run back for it OR not. Look at the video, he is obviously unsure If he should keep running back or not and then he quits running ASAP when he sees no threat.

That's typical with dribblers though. Messi also has a pretty high dispossession stat from failed dribbles. I would be more worried about dispossession while not attempting dribbles, like the other user has pointed out. Static positioning when receiving the ball and poor awareness. Needs to fix it asap.

Thats why valverde doesnt like him in his system. He is playing in a deeper position where it means you cant play like this. He is brilliant at creating and sometimes even at scoring but he needs to work on this if he wants to succeed here in his current position.
Still young and raw and i am still not worried he will improve but its up to him.

Without risk, there is no reward.

If Valverde want to shackle our creative players and load them with more defensive responsibilities than most players in their position get, then you'll see the same outcome vs Roma next season.

That's not to say Dembele doesn't need to improve his defending and track back more, as well as improve his movement because he must, but put him and our other players in a better position to succeed and free them up to play their primary role and not stay confused between two roles, whether to attack or defend.

That's the problem with defensive managers having to develop an explosive attacking weapon who's defensively not that disciplined. See Mourinho and Martial. Same here. Will almost always result in said player not making it.

And Mourinho and De Bruyne

Mourinho and Salah

Mourinho and Lukaku v1

All players that looked very underwhelming with Chelsea because even when they played, they never were in a position to truly perform and showcase what they were signed for, their attacking value.

It's the same with Dembele right now who has a lot to improve, but seem very hesitant and confused on what to do, attack or defend in that RM position.
