Thanks for confirming most people's points about Valverde @BBZ8800.

So what you are basically saying is that younger talented players might have their development under certain managers stalled, but can then go on to become great players once they get a much better coach that knows how to utilize them?

Because that's what you've just said about Xavi, Puyol.

Real talents will always find a way to shine. That's true. But in some cases they need to move elsewhere or get a better manager to do so. Look at Salah and De Bruyne. Well documented examples.

Also, let's forget about Malcom, Dembele and Semedo for a moment. Is there one Barcelona player that's actually played to his potential under Valverde? Rakitic did very well last year in a 4-4-2 where he basically only had defensive duties where it was easier for him to shine, but after the move to a CM again he's been very underwhelming.

The only player that's consistently, constantly shining is Messi, but that's because Messi is an ANOMALY. Even Messi has some off days too.

I was talking about whom we were buying in the past.
Rivaldo, Kluivert, Ronaldinho, Etoo, Larsson, Henry, Villa.

Quite better attackers than current guys, bar Messi, whom we also didn't have too buy.

Dembele and Malcom for now look more similar to cases of Sonny Anderson, Giovanni Deiberson, Saviola, Quaresma, Simao Sabrosa.
They were all bought around 2000 and in early 00's.
Then we stopped buying young forwards for 15 years after those failures.
I have no idea why our board thought that it could be a good idea again.

But who else can we buy, or could have been bought? I meant, who are those proven world class talents you are talking about that we could/should have bought?

problem is, in the current market not only are the prices insane but theres a lack of world class players especially forwards of the caliber you mentioned.

the only big improvement we could of made over Dembele was probably Mbappe but again, we can't compete with oil clubs. I would of personally gone for Coutinho as soon as Neymar left and possibly got Dembele this summer. Griezmann chose Atleti and other than that i cant really think of any world class players we could buy

We bought the best players we could at the moment. Problem is Valverde not players! Only a blind man can’t see that. If Valverde can’t beat Girona and Leganes with our current squad than he should resign on his own.

We do not have to buy the best players simply because they are the best, doesn't make any sense.
We have to buy the players that we need, possibly the best player for the role that we need in the team, to set up a winning team (=well balanced, not only sexy).
It's very appealing to see Messi, Dembele, Suarez and Coutinho together, but in fact, it means out again at 1/4 CL.....

Is there ANY Barca's player who improved in the last 5 yeasr?
Only Mats. And maybe Umtiti.

But they are both in early 20s.

All of our players are aged 30-ish.
All of them are physically weaker and slower in each season.
All of them (Messi, Rakitic) are more and more tired in each new season due to playing 55-60 matches in every season without a rest.
All of them are more and more mentally drained due to zero rest and too many trophies won.

To some extent, people are expecting improvements from players who are destined to be weaker and weaker in each new year.

Now someone will reply: but what about our young players, why aren't they improving?
Well, at least in my case, I am not sure about any single of our players that he is the real deal.
Dembele struggles with basics of football.
About Malcom, we don't know anything.
Arthur, I don't have a good opinion about him for now.
Alena, played only at a 2nd div level for now.
Semedo, probably a fraud.
Denis, Gomes, Samper, Munir, no need to comment.

I agree that EV has his flaws, but our team is mix of proven world class players who are too old and too mentally drained and losing their abilities each new week.
Mixed with some really questionable young players who are probably insanely overrated by this forum and our fans (out of a natural human need for a brighter future and something to look for in the future).

You are definitely not going to get a response to that. The only suggestion I've seen him make is that he wants Daniel Parejo instead of De Jong.
