For me that goal against Atletico truly showed how mentally strong this guy is. The media was all over this guy and at the same time he fell out of favour with the coach. Now look at this :

There is the fatass already screaming at him to give him the ball. Any young player in his situation would have given that pass , instead he goes for a fake and scores.

I may be exaggerating, but I think his goal vs ATM might be the most crucial moment of the season. Imagine if we had lost that game; we would have lost twice in a row with that Betis loss, ATM as our closest title contender would gain enormous confidence from the win and this game could be the difference between winning or losing the league title. I also think that was the moment Dembele really gained confidence and for me became an integral part of our team since then. There was some parts this season in which he annoyed me, but he really stepped up this season and I wouldn't hesitate to start him if the CL final were tomorrow.

True. He doesn't seem to lack confidence.

Are you guys ready for this moment of epiphany? EV is truly trying to help Dembele (regardless if by choice or not). He is placing him as a LW to play closer with Alba and then he is placing Raki as a LCM to help him as well. Basically he is trying to surround him by players who play the Barca style of football (unlike Suarez and Semedo)

Infuriates me how EV keeps subbing him off for Coutinho, effectively killing the pace on counters that Dembele could offer late in the game.

Average match. Didn't do much. Nice goal. Also: in the same action, first Suarez didn't pass him the ball in space, then Messi tried to find Suarez instead of an easier option (Dembele).

This happens often, Dembele is in a good position and Messi and Suarez try to find each other in worse positions or try to dribble instead of the simple pass.

Indeed. It's been evident from the very beginning and I have mentioned it a few times here and elsewhere. Add to that past gesticulations and shouting from Suárez towards Dembélé and a little pattern begins to emerge. It's very annoying.

One of Dembélé's greatest strengths is his insane pace and runs between the defence. If Suárez was smarter or at least more willing to switch positions with Dembélé whenever the opportunity arrises or when needed, Dembélé's sheer pace and runs would create numerous opportunities in a match with Messi around. This is the job of Valverde but a job that he fails at so far, not surprisingly. Dembélé has been very good this season so far but he can be much, much better and much more effective and with a good manager (say Pep) he would have been even better right now.

I don't they have something against Dembele in person, they have been doing this even with Neymar. It's especially strange coming from Messi because someone on his level and with his status shouldn't be too worried about a new star outshining him.

Not saying that they have anything against him as a person (I highly doubt that) but it is the usual "old clique thing". We saw it towards Deulofeu and others in the past as well from mainly Suárez. It's very annoying and I would have a hard time accepting that as a coach but Valverde having no balls, guts or even an ounce of personality or presence in the dressing room is passive.
