11 - Raphinha

DM target is not worth selling your best winger for. It's not like you sell Raphinha and sign Rodri. Just doesn't make sense.

The blanket theory is that you don't trade backwards with your first team players. So a forward for a midfielder, a midfielder for a defender, etc.

But a smart club will try and negotiate forwards (defenders for mids or forwards, etc).

If a player/asset hasn't integrated then you can try and bypass this (so Raphinha prior to this recent adaption) or go like for like.

I think over the past decade we have been consistent in identifying and developing defenders for modern football. So that would be our best sales route to trade up to midfielders and forwards. I'm more confident we can replace a CB than anywhere else.

So agreed, Raphi for a midfielder makes no sense.

There are 7 players who will be officially unregistered next year:
Alonso & Roberto as their contracts ends.
Felix & Cancelo as they are here on loans.

Then: Roque and Fermin both were registered as injury replacements. Inigo as he was registered for only one year of his contract.

The last 3 we have an issue, they aren't registered as part of squad, which means selling them or loaning them doesn't generate FFP income for the 60% rule ( previously 1:4) But otoh they are on the "other expenses" which decreasee our salary cap.

So, loaning Roque delay his registration issue, it doesn't solve registering Fermin, Inigo or adding any new signing.

Worth noting, only 14 player we currently have will be officially registered, in addition to Dest, Fati & Lenglet. We will need to register more players some how, this number isn't enough.

The big question is what is our cap situation next season. Are Libero money arriving?
All this worries might be unsubstantiated, maybe it it is even worse.

Sorry mate, but neither of these players are worth selling one of the key players.

If the situation is like that, start searching for loans for the players that can't be registered.

Obviously, but you need to register players because you can't exceed a certain number of B players, otherwise you lose points. So someone from first team squad need to be sold to fund several players

Also, likes of Lenglet are registered? So if we decide to keep Lenglet as back-up we can do it?

In a perfect world we would be bringing Nico Gonzalez back from a successful loan in Portugal and not need anything at midfield, bar an DMC opportunity signing.
We don't need scrubs. We need top players that can be signed for 60-100m these days. If it can't be done, sign nobody.

Frenkie fans still believe in his quality.

The consensus is to trade 1 midfielder ( de jong) for another midfielder a DM and maybe a forward.

That's a easy decision if you ask me.

while La Liga relax some of their rules this season which they're reportedly considering

According to reddit, they have already done that.
The over the cap rule has been changed, and the amount you can spend is now 60% from what you have saved. An increase from the 40% it was last summer, and from the 25% it was during Covid.

What does that mean? If we sell a player for 100m, we can spend 60m for what exactly? Strictly wages for the next season?

Wage and transfer fees are counted together, they aren't separated.
You sell a player for 100M, save his 20M salary. That is 120M saved. Now you can spend 60% of that as investment, that is 72M.
You sign 3 players, each on 50M deal (club fees, signing bonus, agent fees) on 14M salary, on 5 years contract. That 24M annual cost per player, 72 in total. You can register those 3.

But it's even more complicated, because that player might have a cost on the books, for example F.Torres is worth 30M on books for remaining 3 years. So let's say you sell him for 25M?
You clear 10M annual cost as a saving, but you also made 5M loss. Let's say his salary is 10M, so those are 20M saved from cap space, but 5M loss. So it is 15M saving, 60% of it is 9M, can be spend in both amortization and salary.
