11 - Raphinha

If he can not dribble MSL teams, then you should forget his dribbling ability.

Yea, if by dribbling you mean tricks and flicks. The man always attacks and destabilizes opponents, putting them on their back foot. He just does it by way of physicality and to make room to either take a shot or provide a great pass.

For a winger, it is his 1 on 1 ability. Raphinha seems like he doesn't have that.

But if he can combine well with others, score and assist, then it is fine. Just when the option calls for 1 on 1, he maybe not the man.

He does have the ability to beat a man 1 vs 1, but he was rarely in a position to use it, because almost always he had better options available. Was one of the best players at beating a man in EPL.

Why would you want a player to force a 1 vs 1, or 1 vs 2, when he could have had 3 assists in the first half alone by simply finding his teammates in better positions? Makes no sense. If you can find a player in a better position than you, always pass. That's the rule. It's not like at Leeds where he was the best, here you can find players like Lewandowski, Dembele, Ansu Fati. If they are open and can be played on, pass.

You will see whether he has dribbling or not, in official games where finding teammates in better positions will be very hard. And he will have to force a way through individually.

If he can use his speed and link-ups to beat opponents and get into space, he can generate lots of positives.

Gotta play to your strengths.

Yeah, if you can't do that, and you shy away from 1 vs 1s and pass the ball backwards, then yes, we can talk. But so far, he got the ball and created danger with shots and one-two touch passing.

As a winger, he will find many times he has to beat his opponent 1 on 1 or even two more. So it's not about whether or not he can find better solution, it is something inevitable.

And no, he isn't one of best dribbler in EPL. His dribble completed is low, yet his success rate is also low. That tell you something about his 1 on 1 ability.

He probably will. But not so far. That's what I'm saying.

So far he was not troubled at all. Consistently played his game and delivered potential assists and or dangerous shots every game he played good minutes in. There was no need to just go at players trying to prove he can dribble. Did it 2-3 times to show off and it was a bad decision for the team.

Dribbling has to come naturally. Soon he will be in a 1 vs 1 with no solid pass options around him, and he will have to show us he takes on the players. If he does that he is truly a complete package, dribble, pass, shot, power, speed, smarts.

So far, he showed he has a powerful and precise shot, great passes and eye for assists, and good speed. Did not see much chance for him to dribble except for some isolated moments.

Basically, he is more like Mane than Salah. Salah forces dribbling because he is truly skilled in this area. While Mane can dribble fine, but doesn't force it and is more an off the ball player.

He tried dribbling yesterday and in the former match, but it didn't work. Tried with some stepovers and body feints at different times. He can definitely dribble but he's not great at it

Yeah, that's fair observation so far. Can beat a man if in a position to do so, but not at will like some elite 2-3 players in the world can.

OK, then only Mbappe makes the cut probably. Vinicius and less so Dembele on a good day, but not always.

Salah's success rate is 44%. They're many dribblers with better success rate (Adama, Zaha, Sterling, Dembele, Messi, Sane, Luis Diaz, Kingsley Coman etc) though Salah tends to be more dangerous in the 18 box.

Salah's ball control and his ability in tight space is light year ahead of Adama, Dembele. That's why he is way more dangerous in the box with the ball in his feet. But he isn't a player who will carry the ball from midfield and dribble like these two though.

We're saying the same thing, he isn't a better dribbler but is more dangerous in the box
