Absolutely loved this player.

If he was playing today he'd be worth 200 million minimum. There isn't a single player out there today who is on his level talent wise.

Was he as good as Zidane at his peak? His standing in the game isn't as high, but he had a similar amount of technical ability, genius, magic moments etc. I loved Zidane but I loved Rivaldo too.

Also (taking away bias), do you prefer Zidane's winner at Hampden or Rivaldo's overhead kick? Maybe Zizou's is more impressive because of the height it came down from and scoring with his weaker foot.

He's underrated as fuck, right up there with the best of his generation. Seems to be forgotten overall in favour of Henry for example but he was definitely better for me.
In his prime he was better than Henry, Figo, Zidane.

He was extremely underrated despite winning everything. He didn't like media. His image was tarnished after that dive vs Turkey in 2002 WC despite being Brazil best player.

In Turkey mostly, I'd say. Acting in football is bad rep of course, but take Busquets' infamous peekaboo vs. Inter Milan. It's not the end of the world.

Rivaldo's decline I attribute to Van Gaal's return to Barca in 2002. I still remember the shock how LVG got rid off him.

He's below dinho
Dinho came at a low point and brought joy back to the fans, but rivaldo is a baller.

Barca just has too many great players in attack.

How we haven't won more, just goes to show how terrible management at the club has been in our history and why I will forever ride with Laporta.

He was basically my first real superhero-star in football. I first started following Barca around R9s rise there, but only saw few full matches (not even live mostly, because we haven't had that kind of coverage), mostly watching Eurosport highlights and such. But Rivaldos era i at least saw majority of Barcas CL matches or its highlights and he absolutely enamored with his calm dominance on the field. There were other world class players partnering him in that era, but he was on completely different playing field at the time. Wasn't as flashy or flamboyant as many brazilians tend to be, but got things done in almost german like efficiently with tad more dribbling and technique on his sleeve against difficult odds. That 3:3 against MU is still one of my childhood footy highlights and of course the Valencia kick that got them into Cl spot, saw that much in full, just not sure if it was a rerun or live at the time, given our TV channel quality/rights. Great memories from that era even though mostly painful for the team in general.
