I don't blame the club for him being the backup.

With MAtS being the captain and undisputed #1, there were way more bigger holes to fill and like we've seen with Olmo it was not easy to get all of the players even registered.

You don't expect your keeper to have a season-ending injury and with a look at the squad there are still some other positions I would have addressed before getting a backup for MAtS.

You are always wiser in hindsight.
