Who needs power houses like Toure,Negredo,Ronaldo,Kompany, etc for physicality when you can have them bossed around by a midget. Mascherano was a beast imposed himself physically on Negredo I actually loled at one time when Negredo jumped for a headed and Masch stopped him not by pulling his shirt or anything but just by imposing himself physically

He was excellent vs. Atletico and now against City. Not sure if he should continue as CB next season but there's definitely a place for him in this team.

He also did that with freaking Yaya Toure! Sure, his CB abilities aren't the best out there, but he's probably our only player who can win, or at least compete, in physical battles...

As Bojan said, I don't know if we should keep relying on him for that role, but the team definitely needs a player like him...

It's so easy. Sell Song. Buy a CB. Make Mascherano part time CB / part time DM. All defensive problems solved.

He's played DM for just a few minutes for Barca this season, but he looked great, like he does for Argentina. Song helps this team, he does not have to go in my book. But Masch would clearly be better than Song at DM. The problem with your plan is that whoever would take over half of Masch's minutes at CB would have to perform better at that position than Masch does. Tough to find, Masch has consistently beaten out other candidates.

That's why we can't sell him. If a new CB comes we still have to be able to fall back on Masch if the new guy doesn't perform. On the other hand we have to open up some space as Mascherano won't like to just sit on the bench unless the new CB doesn't perform. Selling Song would open that space for him to get playing time in midfield.

Bartra has been much more consistent than Masch this season. Yeah, Mascherano has been good in the big games, no doubt, but I haven't seen him play that good against smaller teams. Bartra>Mascherano.

I think Masche goes only if Tata goes. Otherwise I'm sure Tata loves having him.

EVERY coach loves a player like this!

Liverpool were devastated to see him leave and he us much better now.

Also, pep say "Keita and maschereno are my darlings"

So you would start Pique and Bartra against the big teams?

Bartra has yet to prove he and Pique can play together against the top teams and neither of them are the leader/organiser type Masch is.

Mascherano has been more impressive this season. His three performances against Atletico and this one last night prove he is correct to be starting the big games just now.
