it's a fairly cautious/reactive formation which I don't think we'd use that often, but I'm sure pep would certainly be thinking about it if we signed a DM of badger's quality purely because he's always into small tactical variations. I don't know if we'd run with it if we signed a lesser quality DM as keita can and does work the double pivot with busquets in pretty swell fashion.

not as well as badger would do, though.

How about that one? Maybe offset Messi a little in front of Xavi and Iniesta, but still behind Villa.

i think xavi needs to play little deeper to take the best out of him... Something like Biscuits in your formation..

In the end, with those players, any formation would work :D

This would be a bad formation IMHO,
1-if we play with double pivot then we will need a powerful left back,Maxwell?Adriano?
2-we cant play with both Messi and Iniesta and wingers because we will end up having 3 players playing in the same area of the pitch(Xavi,Iniesta.Messi),Messi and Iniesta are wingers who loves to cuts into midfield so we will lack natural width
3-Xavi wont be at his best in this role,He was very good at the WC in this position but he wasnt Xavi's Barca
4-Villa is a player who likes to move a lot so we may end up having no players in the box.

Personally, if you do sign mascherano, i would play this:

I dont rate busquets like many of you do tbh, i dont think he is good enoguh to start for the best team in the world... He is ok sub i guess, for all 3 positions (mach. xavi, iniesta).. but thats my persoanl oppinion only...

i agree with you on everything, excet the 4th part... I dont agree that you will end up without player in the box, if Pep says Villa to stay in the box, he will.. It is peps decision, and villa must comply.. Plus, villa likes to move, but only when plyed on the wing.. If plays as lone striker, than his job is to stay higher on the pitch, in the box or near it.. SO i dont think it will be an issue..

man,if we will have Messi,Pedro,Villa on the same field,it will be a Perdo-Messi-Villa one not a Messi-Villa-Pedro one,I rate Busquetes,I would choose him ahead of Mascherano

Yeah I thought about the Xavi thing right after I posted that, but tbh I don't know how else to work with that. Putting Messi closer to Villa (but not next to so he can still work as both a mid and a forward) could help Villa... ordinarily I would stick Bojan or Pedro up with Villa but Masch in there means no room for them.
