15 - Andreas Christensen

I rank him above Araujo and Kounde for the sheer fact that Christensen is incredibly consistent and the most complete CB we have at the club as this man basically has all the tools needed to be a complete defender needed in this day in age.

No slouch on Araujo as that man is a warrior and the best physical and 1v1 defender we have no doubt, he's rough around the edges on some aspects such as the ball playing abilities which to be fair has improved ten-fold since he's been with the first team and will need more time to keep ironing out the kinks.

Kounde has been the most inconsistent of the bunch. Has his fair share of good games where he looks really good and others not so good. I know it probably doesn't help he's being forced to play as an RB half the time which is probably messing with him to some degree.

Overall I'm really happy with what we got. Far better than the days of us relying on a decaying Pique who had checked out from Football long ago, Lenglet who was slow and error-prone, and Umtiti who was once really good but decided to sacrifice his knee for a WC win. (Worth it in his eyes I believe).

Not a fan of Inigo Martinez though, but he would still be a massive upgrade on the likes of Alonso and Garcia.

Our best summer signing without a doubt IMO. Fits Araujo and the club like a glove, cannot see how Araujo and Koundé would be a better CB pair. His main strenghts, Passing and positioning are Araujo´s weak points, and he is equally comfortable in both sides of the backline unlike Koundé and Araujo who both prefer being on the right side. Should be indispensable, and would rather see Koundé sold sold before him, even if selling Koundé won´t help as much financially due to the hefty fee we paid this summer.

Well, as a Madridista I am badly surprised by this guy. Didnt he had panic attacks before big matches in the past? On top of that I thought he is nothing special, but if i had to choose player of the season in La Liga now, it would be between him, Araujo and Ter Stegen. Even though Araujo is the player that I like the most from Barca, i think he is third behind Stegen and Christensen. The inactivity in this thread is speaking itself.

I think everyone here accepts the fact that he is the best CB in the team.

The inactivity in the thread speaks nothing

Mateu Alemany really wants to bring Andreas Christensen to Aston Villa, but only an ‘exorbitant’ offer could take him away from Barça. [@gbsans] #fcblive

Worried of the Villa link because Alemany knows exactly our financial state and which players we will be willing to part with and for what fees.

No leverage basically unless we get other deals done quickly.

Our best bet on the SD side now in terms of signings, is to get someone with deep knowledge of overseas markets line SA (Deco?) And get emerging talents at modest pricing.

Everyone cites Brighton. But look at them, done it again with Enciso, while we got Pocho getting shitcan minutes at the end of a B game if he is lucky.

Wouldn't be so sure, any transfer fee for Christensen is registered as pure profit due to free transfer. We're in need of that profit aren't we. Wouldn't surprise me if Inigo Martinez is coming in to replace him.

Christensen sale only makes sense (at a stretch) if Xavi believes a Araujo-Kounde partnership will be as good or better going forward, and a sum is reinvested on a WC rightback.

Not convinced on either account.

Hope he stays. Key player.

If we are worried about Aston Villa then it is over.

If you think Christensen will go to midtable club that does not play CL, you are wrong.

The sale makes sense if we have a genuine need/requirement to raise more funds. Who in the squad could guarantee 50m-60m profit right now? Christensen and Pedri come to mind, can't think of others.

This isn't me arguing we should sell him, I think he's the best possible partner for Araujo and a far better fit than Kounde.

He isn't a free signings apparently, so the transfer fee wouldn't be registered as pure profit.

In order to be a free signing, you have to play for the club without being paid, aka being a slave.

Has to be literally the purest sense of free possible, you didn't pay to receive him nor do you pay his wages, for it to count.

Indeed he is not free... 10m on the books per season... that is the cost that matters to the club.

Not difficult stuff but with these things you have always been slow on uptake.

See past discussions over Lewa cost on books, Chelsea contracts etc.

Top stuff.
