19 - Lamine Yamal

Player A: 41 Games 15 goals 15 Assists
Player B: 15 Games 6 goals 8 Assists

Which one would you rather have?

**Player A is Neymar's first season
1. League quality and tbf overall football level across Europe was better back then.
2. Neymar had to adapt to a new country/league

While comparisons are easy to make, I still feel Yamal is not yet a Neymar/Messi type player. Those two where carrying their respective teams and were the undisputed stars on the field.
Yamal for now has his moments of brilliance, but doesn't carry us. He doesn't dribble the whole opposition defense and scores a goal.

Yes, there is still lots of time ahead but talent wise I fell he is not a Neymar/Messi level. He probably will surpass Neymar on stats/trophies though.

He's 17. By 19 he will be dribbling past entire defenses

Neymar was the most hyped young player maybe ever.

Was 21 yrs old

On a team with Messi and Alexis Sanchez

I agree he was adapting but that isn't Lamine's problem here. Yamal is 17 playing with overall much worse team. Already is putting up numbers that will blow away an older Neymar regardless.

*Don't get me wrong either I loved Neymar. I was at his Camp Nou unveiling. Mostly on accident as I was mainly there for the final game of the year against Malaga at the time. But still massive Neymar fan.

Much worse team compared to what? Current LL teams are worse than back then and we had Tata Martino as manager.

It's not about being a fan or loving a player. Neymar was the closest thing to Messi as far as talent goes. Fucking up his career because of bad decisions and injuries is a different topic.

Once I'll see Yamal win us games trough his sheer will I'll put him in the same talent bracket. For now he isn't there yet.

That doesn't mean he won't win many more titles or Ballon D'ors.

Should we forget his contribution in spain victory during Euro?
The match he's done against France should not be forgotten, he's already big games under his belt. At 17 years old Neymar was not that mature in his games. Lamine is better, even in term of talent.

Been saying he’s more Ney than Leo in terms of play since he was 15 but his overall game at 17 is superior to 19 year old Ney and arguably the 21 year old that arrived at Barça

Lamine is an absurd player who will set a new standard

Best European talent since Cristiano Ronaldo.

Neymar @ Santos - Libertadores win.

You just can not compare the level they are playing at. A decade later and this looks Liga RFEF.

EDIT

Forgot all about Elano. Cracking player.

The age related comparisons are mostly valuable for statistics as those are influenced by context.

We didn't have Neymar in La Masia to promote him at 16-17. There was a big superstar hole left in our attack after Messi. Also Spain's attack was kinda shit considering they were starting guys like Morata or Ferran.

Mbappe was terrorizing CL defenders at 17 and won a WC at 18.

Young Mbappe was incredible but i dont remember he could dribble and creating chances like Yamal is doing it every game, i think Yamal is the best 17 years old player since la pulga 🔥💯

Lamine at 16 terrorizing CL defenders and winning Euro with 5 G/A and top performances all the way. At barely 17 toying with Bayern and making Davies look like a fucking bozo. 1 Clasico MOTM (more than CR in his entire Madrid stint) and one goal.

Should be mentioned that Lamine is playing with much more responsibility as a full time starter at Barça than young Ney did in Santos. All those young Neymar wonderful dribbles and joga bonito magic at Santos is nothing Lamine is uncapable of. Just that you can't really do it on such a big stage where one mistake or one failed dribble can fuck everything up. Lamine is still attempting them most of the time, usually with positive outcome.

We'll see in a few years when Lamine turns 18 or 19. We'll see his World Cup performance. I consider it completely possible for Lamine to surpass Neymar and especially Mbappe. Both in terms of individual success but also football abilities.
