19 - Lamine Yamal

FCBarca

Mike the Knife
I was frustrated after the first 30 min not just because the momentum shifted but no one was really looking to get Lamine involved in the action and considering he is the biggest catalyst in the team at 16, still odd. Even looked disinterested at one point but that also may have been due to the lack of respect from the referees. Multiple fouls he suffered, no one with a booking and he makes a single foul and gets a yellow

All of this will improve with time

He's a gem. Starting to show his class in big games already. Need to manage him carefully though. Don't need another youngster with broken ligaments.

Imagine if he improves his finishing. Had multiple good chances to score and a WC player would have at least 1-2 goals from that. Still only 16 and imo he has a good technique when striking the ball, think it's just a matter of composure. Compare it to Dembele who used to smash his shots with full power or sky them into third tier of Camp Nou.

Looked dead at the end though. Playing extra time would've been tough for him.

We are overplaying him way too much. Has Pedri written all over him with Spain this summer.

Very talented though. Tad slow and very one footed but besides that lots of potential.

Get this feeling too. Xavi needs to rest him for Raphi in LaLiga and rotate Fermin/Joao/Roque on that left whether he likes it or not.

Euro Cup and Olympics this summer. Last thing we need is Lamine (or Pau) going to both.

If he had pace, he'd be an Mbappe level wonderkid. As a winger, that pace and acceleration gives you that X Factor needed to be a main man and the best in the world potentially. Mbappe had it in spades at Monaco. Messi had that phenomenal acceleration in his young days. Ronaldo had that raw pace. Neymar did too.

Yamal's dribbling is brilliant and his best quality is his agility, balance and flexibility. If he gains weight or muscles, his agility and proprioception will go down. Currently, he reminds me a bit of Mahrez in terms of playing style. Mahrez obviously was a lot more 2 footed naturally.

Lacks the explosive nature and chaotic unpredictability of Dembele's game. He's much smarter than Dembele though. He manipulates the ball brilliantly with his first touch, sudden movements and the weight of his consequent touches on the ball. Yamal definitely isn't a natural finisher/goalscorer though unlike an Ansu Fati for example.

Trying to present footballing comments as early insights when what you say has already long become clear to many for the umpteenth time now.

He is not slow imo. Gets past players and is not caught from behind. He has enough agility to deliver in individual duels and this counts the most. Very few speedsters have the game intelligence to match. Most speedsters rely so much on their pace, that they don't finesse other areas of their game. And guess what, speed alone is not everything you need for the top class level. Just see Dembele.

But he does need rest. As Ferran is gonna get back, we can line-up with Ferran and Raphinha, considering Felix's delivery rate is 2 good performances per 10 games played.

His trademark move must be when he's about to receive the ball and feints and goes on the outside of the defender. He's done it so many times and succeeds almost every time.

Yes. You are thinking of the moment in minute 85. Know exactly which.
