Just logged in to say: my boy Serghei is getting more and more wise as he is getting older
On a serious note: when you look at the history and stats, 90% of young players won't reach their hyped potential.
As this Blanco user said, majority of kids are "just kids" who are 16-17 and nothing special, yet their every good move is hyped to heavens while every mistake is excused with: but he is just 16, 17, 18, 19, he'll improve.
A few years ago I was saying that Fati is weird and I always questioned whether he is IQ 200 scorer who sees things which we don't see or he just had a run of extremely fluke goals where majority of his shots were deflected shots and nutmeg goals.
He got injured later, but it seems that he wasn't an alien scorer but a normal player with an insane luck for a few months.
Regarding other kids, I was always saying that Pedri is the master of hide and seek, people didn't agree.
Gavi is just a weird, overhyped (remember that football and awards are rigged to keep the best brands/clubs/fanbases alive. A kid from Poland, Ukraine or Nigeria will never get an award. But a kid from La Masia/Madrid/England = give them awards every years because all the money is there, we need to keep the buzz and fanbases alive, who cares about a kid from Poland?) kid, jack of all trades, master of none. His best virtues are being from La Masia and kicking everyone around.
From older talents, it really wasn't that hard to see that Dembele was dumb as fuck, that Arthur was a one-tricky pony, or a Wallmart/Alibaba version of Xavi.
Frenkie was also always a hype job.
We traded Rakitic, who was blamed for 0:4 at Anfield, for Frenkie, with whom since the day 1 we managed to break all the impossible records like 8:2 vs Bayern, getting KOd in Champions league group stage and similar.
Regarding kids, imo, in the last few years even the clubs and their PR departments have figured out that the fanbases have a soft spot for youngsters, especially local youngsters, so clubs started to play younger and younger players since it creates the highest amount of buzz, excitement and hope among fanbases.
So, instead of a 30 year old guy with skills 80, just play a youngster with skills 70-75.
He is not much worse, yet there is always a chance that he might improve a lot.
And even if he doesn't improve, the club will gain more followers, buzz and income from shirt's sales with playing local 17 and 19 year olds kids than buying random Dani Parejos and Oriol Romeus.
So, be aware with this new generation of local youngsters = this is turning into a social media hype job.
A lot of them aren't good at all, but they aren't that bad so that they can ruin the club's results too much.
Regarding the cold truth and stats, these are our the most hyped kids (and forum's favorites) in the last few years:
Yamal
Pedri
Gavi
Balde
Fati
Fermin
Cubarsi
Alena
Puig
Oriol Busquets
Wague
Munir
Or some players who were given a chance at the young age:
Ilaix
Ilais
Torre
Jutgla
Carles Perez
Mingueza
We have 18 players here, at least 10 of them were hyped and loved a lot.
When we look back or if we fast forward to the future, how many of them will turn as top level for Barca? 0, 1 or 2.
How many of them are even good enough to be starters? Hard to tell, 0-3 of them, right?
As always, and I feel as if I am writing the same post for 10 years here, like a broken record: whenever you see a new youngster, his chances of turning into a starter are closer to 10% than to 50%.
Yet, people are always doing the same mistake and reply: no. Those guys who failed had some obvious flaws. This new kid (insert any new random kid in each new season) = is different.
I'll be the bad guy again, I don't believe too much in Yamal.
Based on how I see his personality and skills, I see him reaching some sort of level/influence like Joao Felix.
But, if anything, he is not an obvious fail, like Dembele, Arthur or Puig were from the day 1, from those who wanted to see...
Anyway, don't believe the hype.
The awards, papers, social media, playing youngsters since the age of 17 = it's all the part of the strategy.
And after reading Barcaforum, that strategy is working.
People are watching matches and returning to forums/matches mostly because of the youngsters and "hope" for the better future.
So, be careful.
The club, FIFA/UEFA, papers = are all playing with you and they are giving you the kind of drug which you are desperate for.
