2014 WC Qualifiers - Europe

4-0 incoming.

Recently, it's seemed to me like Barca players do well when everyone doubts them. Remember how Spain barely beat Portugal? And a lot of people I know said that Spain would lose in the final (especially after Italy's great game against Germany)... we all know how that turned out.

And, of course, let's not forget about what happened against Milan.

Btw, why doesn't Del Bosque give Llorente a shot? He can't be worse than Torres or Negredo...
Though he has been on the bench for a while...

Spain suffering from the same syndrome as Barca. No motivation until they're in real trouble.

Motivation? Finland had 10 players camped *IN* the box, ffs. Formation was a 4-5-1 or a 4-6-0, with about 2 yards between the lines. Boring-ass game, but don't blame Spain. Stopped watching at the half, surprised either side scored. It was clear Finland was going after a 0-0 draw from the start.

Yeah, Finland was playing for a point not the full three. The very definition of "parking the bus"... La Roja was just very wasteful with all their chances. Negredo was trying everything he could to get a goal at the end of the game, loved seeing that fire from him.

Hopefully Del Bosque goes back to the double-pivot of Busquets/Xabi and Xavi is fit for the game against France. Azpilcueta should definitely start over Arbeloa. I would go with De Gea over Valdes too.

Lol and yesterday everyone was blasting VdB because of the double pivot and how Xabi slows up the play. How times change...

I've never personally blasted him because of the double-pivot, it makes the squad much stronger defensively.

I think Del Bosque has done a superb job w/ La Roja, he needs to ditch the False 9 now that Villa is back though.

Didn't mean you specifically, just an in general statement.

And yeah Villa should play up front, especially now that they're contesting 2 titles in the next 2 summers, one of which they have yet to win.

Was Llorente injured?...I don't understand Negredo over him...More than anything else, Del Bosque has a forward problem to contend with...And with 3 pts needed against Les Bleus, Barcelona will not be too happy to see Xavi pushed into action and the CL Quarters looming - I can't imagine Del Bosque wanting any other solution than Xavi/Iniesta in central midfield

Xavi called Del Bosque and told him personally he wanted to be called up just for the match against France. Del Bosque was going to leave him out of the call-ups if it wasn't for the call. This is all according to Sport and Mundo Deportivo.

Negredo is having a phenomenal year for Sevilla, probably the best of his career. Llorente would have definitely been useful for all the corners that La Roja won against Finland but he's barely seen any time for Bilbao this year, it wouldn't make any sense to call him up right now.

I really don't understand the Javi Garcia call-up though, Del Bosque could have definitely went w/ Michu, Javi Martinez, Soldado, or Ruben Castro over him. I would have personally went with Javi Martinez and had him play in a double-pivot w/ Busquets while Xabi rested. He showed some faith in Cazorla and it really didn't pay off, Cazorla and Iniesta really didn't link up too well together.

They still had like over 80 percent of the ball, Valdes literally has to stop 2 or 3 shots a game and he can't even do that sometimes. It's time to give De Gea a start.

His last four games dont even total 90 minutes in total and hasnt been in the team all season. He would have zero sharpness or rhythm. Negredo has scored 20 goals so far.
