If they sudenly decided to reopen the votes in 2013 so that CR would win it after he won 0 trophies in that year , they could have said that the 2020 award would be given tonight aswell and people should vote for it. Or at least ( due to circumstances , Corona , bad timing and all ) to have another ceremony for the 2020 year. It doesn't have to be big , do it like the Fifa World player of the year did it last season . Go with the award to Lewa. Make it something small . it doesn't have to be big.

Is the 2021 voting vastly different to other years or something? Football twitter isn't exactly a good place to understand a general consensus but if Messi wins it, it's because captains and national team coaches etc have voted for it.

The votes are then displayed to the public so cheating can be squashed. Yet Ballon d'or 2021 is rigged if Messi wins it. Is everyone just an ignorant feck or is the voting different this year?

1 more CL or WC (might be easier to win than another CL, strange as it seems) would give Messi an untouchable resume IMO.

For me, already GOAT but he'd rise to Jordan/Brady levels with another CL/WC (which basically guarantees another Ballon D'Or too). Right now, he's more Fed/Nadal/Djoko levels where obviously GOAT tier but arguments can be made for others (Pele/Maradona).
