21 - Frenkie de Jong

Was it really the same? Neither of them refused to leave there were just no offers in their pay range. Neither did they wait for their contract to expire as Frenkie likely does.

Yes they did, Lenglet still does. Umtiti suprisingly changed his mind after a few years and did the club a favor, we all expected he'll wait and leave for free until he did that.

Nah it's because the club doesn't have balls for these situations. Napoli showed what needs to be done with Osihmen. He worked something out real quick when he realized he was going to be in the stands. Frenkie isn't a bum, he wants to play. If you tell him he won't even be in the stands next season he'll work something out real quick. If more teams start doing this, you'll start seeing less players leaving on frees.

OK but we saw that Barca won't do that so what's the point debating if Frenkie will accept a sale if it's obvious he won't and Barca won't put him on the stands for a year?

The only hope is that it happens naturally like it's happening now. Maybe he'll accept to leave if he loses his place in the first 11 because other players are better. Even then he'll probably stay because he'll get a lot of minutes anyway and signing a new contract as a free agent in 2026 is a lot better for the player.

The fact he is naturally losing his spot as a starter is even more of a reason to threaten the stands, because he knows we can actually do it now and not suffer much on the field for it. If he wants to play, he will leave, either way.

Just because they haven't doesn't mean they shouldn't, which is what some people are simply pointing out.

But they won't do that so what's the point constantly having the same debate?

And I don't agree they should do that anyway even if I want FDJ to leave if he won't accept a salary decrease. Putting a player like FDJ on the stands for a year even if he didn't do anything wrong is risky, other players and agents see this and think twice if they wanna join a club who does that .

If he's not better than Casado (and he's not currently) play him as a rotational player when you need him and sell him if he wants to leave and brings us a good offer. Nobody here would agree to lowering their wage at their job, it's hypocritical to demand that from FDJ.

How do you know that? You have inside info or you can see what happens in the future?
Anyway, I have 0 problems putting him on the stands - IF we put up some reasonable conditions for him and us. If a top 5 club in a top league in Europe comes knocking and he is offered 15ish a year and he says no… up to the stands he goes. Than we know he is just fucking with us and two can play that game. BUT, problems is - it’s becoming obvious he’s not a very good footballer, he might not get those offers he imagines.

The last 2-3 years when Laporta constantly wanted him out and tried his best to force him to leave while he didn't even think about it gave me an idea yes

If they tell him he need to leave next summer and if not will be benched then will leave.

There's a World Cup in 2026. He will want to participate in that.

You're welcome
He played great today. Set up handful of attacks and helped us get through mf. if he plays like under flick it looks promising.

He has no role to play. Doesn't have grit to play defense and doesn't have brain to create up-front.
What he does is basically play it safe and run with ball sometimes. Box to box obsolete kinda player.
