21 - Frenkie de Jong

Difference now compared to last few summers is that he isn't an undisputed starter. Before he'd play no matter what, but this time around he'll be seeing a lot of the bench if Pedri and Casado perform and stay fit. There's hope he might see leaving as best option, especially with next season being WC year.

Yeah it was never gonna happen like Birdy said and it shouldn't anyway, FDJ did nothing wrong (he did us no favors either). They tried that with Dembele but he was too important and it didn't work.

Now that FDJ really doesn't have a place in the starting 11 it could happen naturally. He's gonna be on the bench a lot, maybe he accepts to leave in the summer because of that but I think he'll leave for free in 2026. Nobody will offer him anything close to the wage he gets here, he can be a rotational player until then if that means long term wealth for him and his family. His ankle doesn't look good, it could be his last chance to get that kind of money.

Lot of hate for a player that genuinely always wanted to play for us. Yes he also signed a very good contract for him, anyone here willing to turn down extra money?

Now it's looking like his career could potentially be over in terms of being able to put 100% in. Has been key in winning some trophies, sure he's not been key in winning a UCL, but then not even prime MSN won another UCL after 2015.

Been a scapgoat for years due to board fucking the club, when in reality sparing the money spent on Frenkie would have done little for our squad.

Current situation is more on the board than the club. Club can't register Olmo even with the Nike deal signed.

-Frenkie isnt match fit, seems injury isn't fully healed
-Wage is too high to not be playing
-club needs salary margin because signed Olmo
-Frenkie won't renew contract with huge reduction or forfeiting owed wages (would you?)

I would keep him simply because we need midfielders. We have some talent but it's all a bit patchy. Gavi is still a question mark for me. Pedri is good only under certain conditions + can rarely be counted on for 90 mins. Olmo is constantly injured. Fermin is fine as a sub but no more, same with Torre. Bernal is talented, but looks limited physically + don't know how he'll look post-cruciate.

As far as well-rounded, reliable midfielders we only one at the minute: Casado. If Frenkie remains injury free and gets back to ok form, we have another.
