No they werent.

Koscielny and Mert for the majority of games were the best partnership they have had in years.

This idea that possession means it is easy to defend is wrong. A lot of times defending in a possession based team with a high line and attacking full backs is the toughest system to be a cb in.

If a team's way of defending is having possession and they succeed, then they did have a good defense... Not even regarding the fact that Arsenal often gave up possession, especially in the last 10 minutes of the game where Monreal or Gibbs or Jenkinson were subbed on for wingers
