It is in the post: not fucking up defensively and getting abused from opponents attack as a clear weak link disaster.
That is my expectation for any LB outside Balde, because of who are behind him.

Yes, have to admit he held up very well defensively, at least for the first half hour.
Issue is that he also passed straight away to a Real Madrid player multiple times and most of them weren't even tough passes

Oleguer is world class compared to him

While oleguer was the lowest in the quality in the squad he was a reliable RB. Poor in the offense , slow as fuck, but very good in defense and passing. Gerrard martin is terrible at passing that is his biggest problem.

Inigo playing on LB showed that we can do without playing Martin.
Its should be Fort and Inigo ahead of him.

We should probably get another cb who can play lb. Balde is starting lb. Either that or we get someone on the cheap as backup.

Defensively he disposed Rodrygo on a fair few occasions.

In attacking situations his complete lack of right foot causes him to go so square trying to make a pass

A Balde backup is one of the biggest needs in the summer. Martin is by far the worst player in the first team squad.

The moment he was subbed off the team got immediately better on both sides of the ball.

If flick had made the subs/adjustments I said at half time, Madrid wouldn't have had the 30 minutes phase they had, it was clear what needed to be done.

He made all those subs too late, and we improved with each.

I am content with his performance too.
Was guessing few weeks back that energy from players located closest to him on field (Pedri and Raphinha) would help him and it's true: we aren't getting bullied on that side.
Going forward is a problem but he keeps it simple so it's not a disaster.

He creates a lot of unnecessary danger tho. He passes the ball into feet of opponent in dangerous spots.
