35 - Gerard Martín

I dont understand.

It would maybe make the slightest sense if Fort played too much and he needed a rest, but Fort is definitely well rested considering his play time this season. He is ready to play and he played literally flawless in all minutes he got this season.

There is absolutely no way Flick actually believes Martin is the better player. I know about the claims that Flick has shit eye for talent, but it cant be this bad. Martin is a player with no qualities for this level of football, its obvious with every move he makes.

Laughing at the npc comments after your post.

Again, Brest posed no threat down the wings yesterday. He will get cooked by any decent winger because he is slow as fuck.

Good game for his standards but definitely not convincing yet. Hopefully performance against French league 12th place team on Montjuic wont make Flick extend his belief in him.

With budget he will be replaced. Low level LaLiga future.

Reality is Malonso was a better squad option, but we had him on way too much cap. If capology is to be trusted, they have him on 50% of his Barca wage currently in Celta (6m gross to 3m gross).

Alonso is levels above if we are honest, even those guys like Alonso, Kessie, Depay etc were important because they were able experienced alternatives to bring off the bench. We wish to have backups such as those right now.

There has to be a story there for why Valle departed to leave Martin as Balde’s backup, especially considering he primarily was played as RB for Flick in pre-season

Martin is an unreliable backup that will always be a target to exploit for opposition

Of course Alonso was better, the guy played at a very high level for a whole career. I doubt Martin will ever be a regular anywhere in La liga.

That really didn't make any sense, I also think there is more to this story that we know. Even if they had to sell Faye and Julian, we didn't profit anything with loaning Valle. He was looking good even at RB, I'm sure he would be a lot better than Martin.

Depay isn't really better than Ferran tbh, even if he could score a little bit better, Kessie atm isn't missed either. We are fairly stacked in midfield.

Alonso is better than Martin, but at the end niether were good enough. Never mind that Albs was the backup LB in Alonso first season, and Cancelo was the backup in 2nd season. Those are the ones we really miss.

I think it is the usual case of a coach having an unorthodox opinion. Many coaches have a weird player they rate more than the fans. Flick trusts Martin, more than he does with Valle & Fort.

It is the wrong decision, but I don't think there is "more" in that.

The rumour was that Valle wanted more playing time than Flick could guarantee- in terms of a backup role as he was behind Martin.

The only point of contention is why Celtic rather than LaLiga, which may suggest the club is looking for a financial outlet. Remember Valle was loaned out to LaLiga2 last season and lost his starting position towards end of season. So there is a quality issue too there.

Flick game is built on great physical tools to maintain his demanding style for 90 minutes. Martin from Accounting, Big Dom and even Bernal over Casado. And even then Casado is a physical anomaly as he is small but has the highest workrate in the team and one of the highest in the whole of Europe.

Flick is a typical German, big good, small bad, type manager.

A small player has to be special for him to go with that guy.

Could be. He preferred Bernal over Casado too. Also talked about Araujo as if he had a crush on him.

Find it ironic that after being in minority when I was defending Martin as backup option now I am again in minority as I think he was pretty bad against Brest
