4 - Ronald Araújo

Sounds like the typical contract renewal kind of rumours that usually appear.

Saying all that, I do think that if we could get an astronomical transfer offer (top 10 CB sales of all time) then we should consider selling him and recruiting a more ball playing option. Seeing as we are deadset in our style and Araujo has serious positional flaws which are currently not offsetting his lack of ball playing.

But time is on Araujo side and he will probably still develop a hell of a lot, just more quicker in a team that suits his style more like Man Utd (who has been rumoured).

Top 10 cbs transfers? That would barely be 30m. Csbt afford any decent cb with that especially considering he's our best

50m euros. With cats like 'Arry Maguire and de Heavy fetching over 85m.

But 50m at a minimum would be enough to reinvest a portion in a better ballplaying prospect like Goncalo Inacio or a more experienced ball player like Skriniar (2023 expiree).

No one has bid for him but the rumours are that contract was agreed with Barca and waiting to be signed.. club left it too long and Utd/Chelsea come in with higher offer and the player goes back on agreed deal.

Similar situation to Dembele. Club needs to get switched on to this.

Starting to pick up major persona non grata vibes from this player. Are we low balling the player BIG time, or is he just greedy and ungrateful for what we have done for him? My opinion is that we could match whatever Garcia is earning. If it?s now enough, he should leave in the summer.

The position we have put outselves in with signings (or lack of) at the back, we cannot afford to let him go. He's exactly the type of defender we need more of, and even if he ends up squeezing us harder than we'd like, we just have to fork out the cash. Whatever we pay for him in salary will unlikely come near what we will have to pay for a player of his profile in the market.

Of course, we don't want to go around ruining our wage structure all over again with ridiculous contracts, but I doubt a contract of Araujo would be comparable to the kind of shit we got ourselves into with Coutinho, Greizman, etc.

Both Garcia and Pique earn around 4m per season if I?m not mistaken. Imo Araujo doesn?t merit earning more than any of the aforementioned players.

How much are EPL clubs willing to pay for him?

I wouldn't really use Pique as a reference though, given that his is a complicated situation, plus he has a lot of stuff going on with respect to agreements with the club, probably a back ended bonus structure, plus his vested interest in the management of the club etc.

With respect to Garcia, I'd say it's the other way around. Garcia has shown nothing so far to prove he should be earning more than Araujo.

As for what EPL clubs are willing to pay for him - do you think we should take a decent offer for him? I wouldn't. There's no point unless we are a team that can use the money to buy a similar player back and pocket the change. We routinely get worse players for more than what we sold our original for, so it just doesn't make sense to me.

Fair enough, we don?t really know how much of Pique?s earnings were deferred until a later date.

Back to Araujo, one doesn?t graduate from college and demand a corner office with a view of the city. There?s a process involved in which experience and skills are developed. Araujo?s compensation should reflect a player who is just starting his professional career.
